A Michigan judge on Friday ordered Detroit's emergency manager to withdraw a federal bankruptcy petition filed on behalf of the city, Reuters reported.
State Circuit Court Judge Rosemarie Aquilina ruled that the law allowing Gov. Rick Snyder (R) to authorize the bankruptcy filing was unconstitutional, according to Reuters. Aquilina ruled in favor of Detroit retirees and workers who argued the Michigan Constitution protected the retirement benefits in their city pension funds.

(1,451 posts)its crazy. They are still trying to fight the EFM. the people of Michigan voted it down and they put in a spending bill as not to be revoked. They are trying to get most of governor Snyder's legislation thrown out. It has been said he has not had the quorum for his legislation to go into immediate effect.

(10,942 posts)the US Supreme Court as soon as it was enacted. For better or for worse, people that live in a city, town or village has a right to elect the people that lead them. Snyder wouldn't dare try putting an emergency manager over a wealthy city or town that finds itself down on it's luck, he would have his damned shoes sued off in court. If anyone thinks that a wealthy location can't run into financial trouble, I have no better exhibit than Orange County California a few years back.
