America the Wussy-ful, Part One: F*** Domestic Surveillance

http://bluntandcranky.wordpress.com/2013/07/22/america-the-wussy-ful-part-one-f-domestic-surveillance/

Snips:
"Lots of readers have misunderstood the Cranky position on the Surveillance State, so let’s clear it up: f*** the “Patriot” Act, its bastard children, and the court rulings that expanded its reach. Just because a contractor is an a**hole doesn’t mean spying on us is acceptable.

But what bothers your friendly neighborhood blogger even more than the spying is that We The People have so passively accepted it for a decade and change. After 9/11, America turned into a nation of wussies. We got so scared of the eeeeevillll terrorist monsters, we let the government take away our freedoms in exchange for a bulls*** promise of safety."

"Remember the quaint old notion of being innocent until proven guilty? These programs assume the opposite: they treat us all as suspects, and we can never be considered innocent."

I know, lots of us here at DU fought against it (myself included). But as a nation, America has turned into a load of scaredy-cats.

And one more time, to be clear: I hate the god-damned, motherfucking surveillance state. I do NOT support it, and never have.

One can bash Snowden and the Patriot Act at the same time.

Hmmm, given my health issues, maybe that wasn't the best phrasing...

But seriously, I have never once endorsed the Surveillance State. Not in 2001, not since, and not now.

The very nature of surveillance is based upon suspicion of those being spied upon. And that is far, far beyond unconstitutional.

I have bashed Snowden, but that does not translate into support for this uber-Orwellian nightmare that has grown up over the past decades.

I didn't realize until the other day that people thought I supported the spying program, and decided I'd best set the record straight.

Fuck Bush, the NSA, the "Patriot" Act, license-plate-scanning cop car cameras, and the rest of it. Fuck the lot of it with a rusty file.

Despise Snowden, but hate the surveillance state. As I posted elsewhere, my 2 NJ Senators, both Dem, voted for the original Patriot Act. I was so pissed I voted for the Rep in the next Senatorial election. The only time in my life I've ever voted for one.
I let them both know too. Not that it did any good, but you do what you can.
