Report: Jay Z, Kanye West, Rolling Stones join Wonder's Florida boycott

http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/312559-report-kanye-west-rolling-stones-join-stevie-wonders-florida-boycott

By Justin Sink - 07/22/13 12:31 PM ET

Some of the music industry's biggest acts are joining Stevie Wonder in boycotting Florida over the state's controversial "stand your ground" law.

Artists joining Wonder include Rod Stewart, Madonna, Usher and Justin Timberlake, a source close to the legendary musician told American Urban Radio Network's April Ryan.

Rappers Jay Z, Kanye West, Trey Songz, Young Jeezy and Wale have also signed on to the boycott threat, as have pop acts like R. Kelly, Rihanna and Alicia Keys.

"Other musicians have signaled their support for Martin: Bruce Springsteen dedicated a song to "justice for Trayvon Martin" during a concert in Limerick, Ireland, while Jay Z and Beyonce met with Martin's parents during a rally in New York City."

Kudos to the artists who have joined Stevie Wonder in his boycott.

Once it's safe for me and my husband to walk aimlessly through the streets there, I'll go. Maybe if there's enough pressure they'll review and end stand your ground. I really want to compare the beaches to California.

Beachwise, pretty much the same.

Big difference is the water. California has cold currents coming down from the north, Florida has warm currents coming up from the south, this Gulf Stream thingie. Water in Florida is much nicer, warmer, and much more clear.

Florida is much more boring than California, because it has little besides the beach. California has wildly great natural features, and cities that are actually interesting.

Florida is hot and humid, California is hot and dry. Dry is much more comfortable and livable.

Florida is mostly regressive, California leads progressive in the US in many areas.

Florida is much further south than California; Los Angeles is at the same latitude as Wilmington, NC. Wear more sun screen in Florida.

I'm from Los Angeles and those pesky Floridians are always bragging on their beaches. And their oranges. I was watching East Bound and Down and I thought Florida would be a mix between that and a 2 live crew video. And I wanna go to Black Biker week.
I'm so stupid. It's Myrtle Beach, S.C.. That's where Kenny Powers lives. And Shelby, N.C.

Danny McBride plays Kenny Powers, politically incorrect baseball player down on his luck after a steroid scandal ended his career. He ends up coaching at a Jr High, while trying to make it back to the majors. He is mildly delusional and has issues with a platinum blond Will Farrell, who wears a KFC Colonels suit and runs a bmw dealership and speaks like a plantation master.
The people in Shelby are awesome.

or in fact most of the cities on the Florida mainland. The traffic is murder. Luckily we are land poor here in the islands so our population pretty much stays the same. Still we ponder ways to blow up the bridge in the height of tourist season.

not one of these well intentioned, but well misguided geniuses, ever considered that their 'boycott' will have the opposite effect.

State legislators, and the voting public are loath to be scolded, reprimanded or told what to do by outsiders.

'Stevie Wonder, Rod Stewart, Madonna, Usher, Trey Songz, Young Jeezy?
Who the fuck are they?'

Their protest, boycott, will only make it even more difficult to repeal FL's SYG laws;
simply because no FL politician wants to be perceived as caving in to 'Stevie Wonder'.

Feel powerless - as most of us do in regards to those vicious bullies in the Gun Lobby.

It's not going to change laws - but if Jay-Z feels like - hey! I want to express my anger in THIS way - that's his right.

What's gonna happen? Georgie gonna get a gun and force Jay-Z to play?

All they are doing is saying that the law in this state sucks.

It's called freedom of speech. They have that right as much as Georgie gets to sleep and make love with his gun.
