Falling TV set injuries in U.S. rising at 'alarming rate'

Most injuries are in kids under 5; head and neck injuries including concussions are the most common.

"This is a problem that is increasing at an alarming rate," said lead author Dr. Gary Smith, a pediatric emergency specialist and president of the Child Injury Prevention Alliance in Columbus, Ohio.

Smith said it is unclear from the data what type of TV sets are involved in the accidents or whether older, heavier models are the most common culprit.

The study was published online Monday in the journal Pediatrics.

That was my policy. And was so happy when rear projection CRT came out as that system allowed one to see the puck in a hockey game.
4x will put an end to 3D gimmickry TV. The issue has always been resolution.

Tv's are definitely better now... but I'm not surprised that kids are knocking them over.

The cars hazard was brought up by my Libertarian friends a year or two ago when it was an issue.

I sure hope these folks can get their TVs secured.

Those brackets aren't cheap. I wonder how many are making due with just putting those screws with expanding plastic brackets in the wall like you would mount a picture frame.

Mine are stand-mounted in locations where my lady and I won't walk into them, and we have no kids over, ever.

True or not, I still think it's kind of tragic that the average person can't install a TV.

We wall mounted our new 55 inch 3-d Samsung Smarttv. It fell off the wall and wasn't covered. I literally cried. Wasn't covered by insurance. Don't know why, but I think it's because we self installed.
Got a new one now. It's sitting on a huge old desk and cannot fall.

Send the tv set humpers a message. Our children need not be victims to these instruments of torture* and death.

don't let folks open carry them at the store (oh, I know they do, saw someone watching a show on their iphone at the store one day - scared the shit of me, thought his cart was gonna run me over because he was not paying attention).
