Most injuries are in kids under 5; head and neck injuries including concussions are the most common.
"This is a problem that is increasing at an alarming rate," said lead author Dr. Gary Smith, a pediatric emergency specialist and president of the Child Injury Prevention Alliance in Columbus, Ohio.
Smith said it is unclear from the data what type of TV sets are involved in the accidents or whether older, heavier models are the most common culprit.
The study was published online Monday in the journal Pediatrics.

(776 posts)A CRT lasts for years and years and years. Don't know if LCD or LED can hold up for even a decade.

(776 posts)That was my policy. And was so happy when rear projection CRT came out as that system allowed one to see the puck in a hockey game.
4x will put an end to 3D gimmickry TV. The issue has always been resolution.

(20,885 posts)The cars hazard was brought up by my Libertarian friends a year or two ago when it was an issue.
I sure hope these folks can get their TVs secured.

(26,219 posts)Those brackets aren't cheap. I wonder how many are making due with just putting those screws with expanding plastic brackets in the wall like you would mount a picture frame.

(33,224 posts)True or not, I still think it's kind of tragic that the average person can't install a TV.

(34,648 posts)We wall mounted our new 55 inch 3-d Samsung Smarttv. It fell off the wall and wasn't covered. I literally cried. Wasn't covered by insurance. Don't know why, but I think it's because we self installed.
Got a new one now. It's sitting on a huge old desk and cannot fall.
