Rescued dog saves family from fire in New York house (w/pic of good doggie)

A dog, rescued just a few, short weeks ago, is being credited with saving his guardian, and her grandson, from a house fire in Long Island, N.Y., reported Friday's NBC New York.

Bear, a massive mastiff-mix, was adopted by NYPD detective Carolyn Swinson on July 5, and early Wednesday morning, the rescued dog returned the favor when he woke Swinson up, alerting her to a fire which was burning outside of her closed bedroom door.

Bear's fast action allowed Swinson, and her nine-year-old grandson, to safely escape the fire which was quickly consuming her home.

Though much was lost in the blaze, the most important things, their lives, were spared.

Prior to joining Swinson's family, Bear resided at an area animal shelter, where he was taken after he was apparently abandoned by his prior owner.

Kinda what they do. Good job, pup. Well done.

Glad she adopted this big fella that others would likely pass up (news report pegged him at 140+ lbs).
