The Guv and his cronies are already dozing empty homes in neighborhoods where people still live. They are just knocking them down and leaving the rubble. HOA individual representing 5000 homes in Detroit was just on Ed Radio Show.

(9,610 posts)long term, it is probably better to bulldoze the houses. 20 years down the road, if the economy turns around, they can build business centers/shopping centers/schools/factories/etc on the vacant lots. There comes a point when rehabilitation is too costly and it is more efficient to start fresh.
As for the families still living in the areas, maybe the city could work out a land swap deal to relocate them into areas of the city that will not be dozed.
