(63,912 posts)I think it takes time...I remember how many times I relapsed when I was trying to quit smoking. I finally did, but it took a while...and once I was done, I was done. I never smoked again...it's been 32 years...
geek tragedy
(68,868 posts)It does make one wonder if there's a point to his running for public office besides the ego stroking. he's cybersexted more often than he's gotten legislation passed.

(63,912 posts)I don't know why substance addiction is different from a sexual addiction. I'm no psychlogist, but it seems to me to make sense that an addiction would be hard to give up, no matter what kind it is.
geek tragedy
(68,868 posts)how awesome he is, etc. He never touched any of these women. Not sure if he even saw nudies of any of them. Rather, it's about how impressive he is to them, how in awe they are of his physique, his codpiece, his speechifying.
CTyankee
(63,912 posts)quirky. I think there is such a thing as sex addiction...or at least I've heard of it...and his "can't seem to stop" behavior is sort of like an addiction...

(63,912 posts)I think it is a tragedy when people can't enjoy a satisfying sex life with their partners. Sexual intimacy with a beloved is one of the greatest satisfactions in one's life, IMO...
geek tragedy
(68,868 posts)This seems to be about something other than sex. It's about a kid who grew up skinny with a nasal voice and a funny last name wanting to be a stud.

(63,912 posts)anywhere. She is much more professionally erudite than he is. But I'm sure she still has trust in their love and is looking out for their child. She may regret this, however, but we can't know the future.
geek tragedy
(68,868 posts)Just unseemly. She's doing what she wants, but at the end of the day if you need your wife to get up and say she loves you, that's sad.

(63,912 posts)I would toss Weiner's ass out of the house, myself. I don't know how she could smile so much during the press conference and then say what she said. I'm at a loss for words at this point...

(72,790 posts)When a repuke does it, folks here think the repuke should resign.
When a DEM does it, folks here think it's none of our business what one does in their bedroom.

(102,328 posts)But, in terms of double standards, it isn't RETHUGs that face consequences.... Can you say Vitter, Mark Sanford, Rudy Guilliani, John Ensign, Mark Souder, Newt Gingrich (for starters?)
Weiner resigned, as was the public expectation of Democrats. Likewise, so did Jim McGeevey, Gary Condit, and Eliiot Spitzer--for starters.
So, no... regardless of whether the Dems SHOULD resign or not, there are no double standards for Democrats involved in sex scandals versus Republicans, now, are there?
frylock
(34,825 posts)or are the democrats better? which is it?
hlthe2b
(102,328 posts)I'm personally disgusted at some of the behavior... But if we are going to expect/force Dems to resign or otherwise face some kind of consequences--whatever they may be, depending on the specific circumstances, I'd like to know why it does not bother YOU, as supposed ( ??? ) Dem/Progressive, that we don't force the RETHUGS to hold their own to the same standards.
AND, I damned well think you need to stop trying to attribute your OWN words/interpretations/conclusions to other DUers. It is highly dishonest.
frylock
(34,825 posts)why would you? right is right and wrong is wrong. because some people get away with doing the wrong thing doesn't mean people shouldn't be held to account for their stupid decisions.

(34,825 posts)what would you have me do? stomp my little feet here on the web and rail against their hypocrisy? or would you rather i engage in the "well they do it too" game?
hlthe2b
(102,328 posts)with ugly and very inaccurate attribution of comments and beliefs to them is helpful... Dishonest, yes...
frylock
(34,825 posts)you want to scream and yell about hypocrisy, all the while SEEMING to engage in it yourself.
simple question: did Weiner, yet again, show poor judgment, and should it be overlooked because republicans don't hold their own to the same high standards that democrats ALLEGEDLY do?
hlthe2b
(102,328 posts)your assumptions to me. It is beyond dishonest. And, yes, I damned well resent it.
Absolutely indefensible behavior for a Democrat--and I'm not only talking about Weiner.
frylock
(34,825 posts)I did not reply to you, and I never once mentioned you by name, or attributed any quotes to you, misrepresented or otherwise. I mentioned double standards and you came in, both barrels blazing.
hlthe2b
(102,328 posts)And, yes, every comment you made to me was very disingenuous and accusatory.
frylock
(34,825 posts)is it a double standard only for republicans? for the record, i'm not a registered democrat. never have been, never will be.

(19,429 posts)The woman said that the online relationship occurred in 2012 about a year after Weiner's initial fall and resignation from Congress.
Weiner addressed the revelations in a statement released through his campaign. But he did not address the timeline of the chats and photos.
I said that other texts and photos were likely to come out, and today they have," Weiner said in the statement.
