"Dear friends and family,
Dad is doing well. He spends his time in prison helping others cope with the legal process of seeking clemency, especially minorities who have received disturbingly long sentences, and he is acting as a life coach to many of the young men..He wishes he could write each of you personally
to tell you how fortunate he is to have you in his life.
He would appreciate if you wrote to your member of Congress about disproportionate sentences for minorities, harsh drug laws for small time drug offenses, and lengthy sentences for non-violent
inmates in general.

Dad would love if you took a moment to thank Congressman Steve Cohen for addressing the Siegelman case with U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder in a House Judiciary Committee recently.
Congressman Cohen has been incredibly supportive and is scheduled to be speaking about the case this week on Huffington Post Live.
His address is:
The Honorable Steve Cohen
2404 Rayburn Office Building
Washington, D.C. 20515
If you would like to donate to dad's commissary or legal defense fund, you can do it here:

My family is honored and blessed by your support and appreciates you everyday.
I hope to be celebrating dad's freedom with you very soon!
With very best wishes,
Dana:

(42,770 posts)he is so much "all about politics" than we had hoped he would be and that he said he would be.
I know Don and it makes me sick that his life was ruined (although it is so him to make the
best of his situation). But, surely, surely he must have thought when a Dem got in that
true justice would come.

(55,981 posts)If Ms. Clinton says she will protect SS and Medicare, fight for single payer, repeal the Patriot Act, fix the FISA Law, etc. I will remember Barack Obama the campaigner vs. Barack the President, and not believe a single word she says.

(42,770 posts)pardoned Don, the right would be all over it. Or, would they ? If they did, it would open up the door
for the shady circumstances surrounding Don's arrest. Not sure if they'd want that all brought up.

(55,981 posts)unless they raise a stink about pardoning Gov Siegelman.
But looks like some important people dont want the Gov free.

(23,867 posts)Thanks for posting. I'm still trying to figure out just what to say. It's overwhelming to try and put words to this. I can't believe he's in a cell.

Holder. Apparently, Obama could pardon Siegelman today if he was into doing the right thing.

I love the part where he says what I have been saying here for 18 months - that in the DOJ coming and harassing people who are abiding by the new liberalization of state marijuana laws, Attorney General Holder is empowering the violent drug cartels of Mexico!

(6,829 posts)Why is it that Karl Rove can get our own government to ruin some many lives unjustly and still walk free?
Does anybody have a list of just how many lives Karl has ruined? And also suspicious Rove related deaths, usually in small planes?
Thanks

(6,819 posts)I don't think Siegelman did anything illegal. But even if he did, why is he spending more time in prison than a rapist?
One of the many mistakes in this case is that Obama did not instantly replace the teabaggers who were in charge of the regional US Attorney's office.
