Huma Abedin on hubby Anthony Weiner

Standing beside Weiner during a press conference in New York City on Tuesday, Abedin addressed the public explaining why she has chosen to stay with the former congressman following his latest sexting scandal.

"Our marriage, like many others has had its ups and its downs," Abedin said. "It took a lot of work and whole lot of therapy to get to a place where I could forgive Anthony." Abedin added that her decision to stay with Weiner was entirely her own and that she did it for her family.

"It was not an easy choice in any way, but I made the decision that it was worth staying in this marriage," she said. "That was a decision I made for me, for our son, and for our family."

I think it was a personal matter between husband and wife. If she can forgive him, so can I. Therefore, I think his candidacy should be based on his political record and views, and not on this distraction. This is very much unlike Republicans who made an issue of sex and then were "caught". IMHO, it wasn't the indiscretion, it was the hypocrisy.

Of course, I don't live in NYC so I really don't have a dog in this hunt...

demonstrates conclusively that the guy has no impulse control and just about as much judgment. And those are two personality traits you don't want in a chief executive.

In any case the arrogant, racist, Palestinian hating creep is toast.

to not support him ?

not this sexting crap. i think his wife probably doesn't have a problem with it but it's probably considered even less acceptable for her to say that in public than for the sexting thing itself.

--her hubby has a need to flash his weiner to unsuspecting people. It's a weird addiction. And also he's a lying narcissist. But she's decided to try to make the best of it, with therapy. It's not something she should put up with. He needs help to figure out why he has these destructive compulsions. It's self-sabotage. Important to see the difference between this behavior and a sexual liaison.

I doubt she'd be fine with a purely sexual relationship either. At least it would be between consenting adults, but still has the element of thrill of being naughty --"my wife (ie. my mommy) doesn't know." But this Weiner thing is all about an adolescent need for attention and predation to get that attention. Lots of wives have had to bring their spouses to a (let's just say) greater sense of self-awareness and adult maturity. With greater or lesser success.

I bet Hillary and Huma have had some GOOD chats...

That with all the smears of shit all over this guy, it's the one that actually has nothing to do with his career that makes people boo him. Vote to waste thousands of American lives in an effort to destroy Iraq? Silence. Insisting that cluster bombs are humane - so long as used on Palestinians? Silence. Sends a pick of his banana hammock to someone? OUTRAGE! ANGER! CALLS FOR RESIGNATION!

But then if there's one thing DU has taught me, it's that I can't expect "progressives" to be much better than regressives when it comes to dicks or Arabs.

This is from last month:

Anthony Weiner to meet with Rev. Al Sharpton, speak at rally

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/election/anthony-weiner-welcomed-rev-al-sharpton-article-1.1365669#ixzz2ZxgJwUie

Note:

A Quinnipiac poll last month found Weiner the choice of 20% of black Democrats. Christine Quinn was next at 14%, followed by Bill Thompson, the lone African-American in the race, at 13%.

Who knows, though, how the most recent news will impact his standing in the polls.

Anthony Weiner is a lot of things, but racist does not appear to be one of them.

Weiner's look tame by comparison.

Weiner, for all his sexting weirdness (and I DO think he is weird and has a problem), is a rank amateur. If he were in the GOP he could visit prostitutes, poop in diapers, get a change and a dusting, and have his wife step up beside him in leopard polyester, swearing to stand by her man!

Why would her opinion on this have any validity?

You noticed that when this came out a couple of years ago, she wasn't at his side. Now, he's gone and done it again, and she's playing "The Good Wife". Clearly, she wants to be the wife of a NYC mayor rather than a former Hillary aide, even though she'd have her pick of jobs in a future Clinton presidency. Clearly, she's drunk the kool-aid.

I don't live in the city, either, so it's not my dog in the fight as well. However, I get coverage of all of this on both national and local news, so I'm immersed in it.

of whether he is a good candidate for office. I don't care a fig about his sexual behavior or about their marital life. The question is whether the guy is a fool. There are plenty of fools in office already; there's no need for another one. Other people will vie for the office without him.

Glad to see men (am assuming you are one by your indicators)--who are not willing to buy that this behavior and the disclaimers (ie. lies) around it are so benign in a politician.

Yes --time for Weiner to spend more time with his family (and his therapist) and find something useful to do. The come back kid schtick is not working for him.

That she thought her husband is cheating scum?
That she wants a divorce?
That she's ok with the behavior and encourages it?
That it turns both of them on when he does it?

None of the above would be politically acceptable things to say.

Weiner is scum and she either really loves him anyway or has decided she wants to be First Lady of NYC

when means she put herself in a position where she would have to speak publicly about her husband's behavior. I think Weiner is slime for putting his wife in that position, but my response wasn't really meant as a criticism of Huma, merely that under the circumstances she had to say some variation of what she said.

Even if she's staying with him, she didn't have to humiliate herself that way.

I don't care if Hillary did it too - she didn't need to humiliate herself either. Perhaps she would've been president already if she'd thought more about her own career and less about her pain-in-the-ass husband's career.
