There is a thread in LBN about Lindsey Graham/Iran that is doubly sickening

First, that Graham wants to use force in Iran.

Second, the large number of DU'ers that refer to Graham as either gay, or a woman.

The homophobia on DU has not gone away - disgusting that a so-called progressive site stoops so low.

Take a good look at yourself. And don't judge me for simply relaying what I've seen. I'm probably a lot more on your side than you realize.

I'm a pretty sensitive person. I've spent much of my life being kicked around. I can't put it into words. I've tried, and just erased it. I have a feeling I can't come out well in this thread. But if you knew me you'd realize I'm not the kind to create friction. Just the opposite. And to my own demise.

I'll admit I thought it was odd when I heard Colbert say it. I'm surprised because they're a very bright group of people. I see your point. That doesn't make it right. I'm sensitive in many ways, but even I can be insensitive.

not only homophobic, but misogynistic.... Both frequently go hand in hand.... Despite the loud protests from some here, misogyny is alive and well on DU and quite often is either behind or strongly accompanies the homophobia.

Both need to be addressed on DU.

objectionable. the first one where the poster referred to him as Ms, was challenged. It should be hidden. The second was the one about how he didn't have to worry about his kids and grandkids because he'd never been married and is a "gentleman", was also objectionable but I doubt most juries would vote to hide.

Two is too many but it is not a large number. It's 2 out of dozens. Yes, there's still homophobia and sexism here, but it's diminished a lot.

Personally, I dislike anytime GLBT issues are brought up in regards to certain topics, then we get shit all over (Iran, Russia, hate crimes, as examples).

Because we're not spending enough money in the military and not killing enough
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1014&pid=547675

REASON FOR ALERT:

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate. (See Community Standards.)

ALERTER'S COMMENTS:

There are plenty of ways to bash Lindsey Graham without resorting to homophobic slurs.

JURY RESULTS

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Thu Jul 25, 2013, 10:52 AM, and the Jury voted 5-1 to HIDE IT.

Juror #1 voted to HIDE IT and said: play nice or play elsewhere
Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT and said: Obviously over the line. Hide it.
Juror #3 voted to HIDE IT and said: Agree with that objection. Graham is a typically despicable republican but I'd thought DU was through with homophobic (or transphobic etc) slurs since people were told to cut out the "Mann Coulter' etc type of garbage.
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT and said: No explanation given
Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT and said: Why someone would think that's ok is beyond me. It should be looked at if someone like that really belongs here.
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: So a simple fuck you Graham cracker would be OK? All in or out, no middle ground here. I'm in, noting to see here move along.

Everyone but Juror #6 got it and expressed themselves well. Sorry some are making you feel unwelcome. I don't feel welcome myself. Hope the hide speaks for the majority of DUers.

I get a somewhat inside scoop from a friend who is active in the Libertarian insurgence in the repub party. There will be a serious primary challenger to Graham. He appears very vulnerable from where I sit.
