What's with MSNBC's boner for Weiner?

I mean regardless of which side you come down on Weiner's douchbaggery, doesn't it seem kind of strange that MSNBC is spending so much time on him?

It's completely turned me off. Especially Chris Matthews.

Who actually chaired a committee in Congress...and has paralyzed, not has the potential, the eight largest city.

It's an editorial decision, and not accidental

self-important nonsense at that. And really? San Diego is "paralyzed"? What does that even mean? Is no business being conducted by city government? Are tourists staying away in droves? What?

Filner was even more of a marginal figure in Congress than Weiner. It took him a decade and a half to get the chairmanship of a mid level committee.

yeah, yeah. I'm "iggypoo".

I don't know anything about Filner, but Weiner is fairly progressive. What are the motives for the disparity in coverage?

I must confess, I don't know anything (I've heard his name) about Filner. You mention that he's a progressive, but a defense hawk. That he could bring down other major Democrats. I'll have to google what he did, but what Democrats did he have things on; DLC types, or fellow progressives?

He was on the inside tract. You never heard from him since he never did the tv circuit.

He's a social progressive, even was a freedom rider. But on defense, a defense hawk. Navy town. He did a lot of good for vets though, and minorities. Why the base here is more than just pissed.

I confess, his agenda for the city was good...but this was not caused by his political enemies...the down town mafia wanted him out. It was caused by bob Filner.

Perhaps it's because I'm in the SF bay area but I find it impossible to be in any way interested in NYC politics. I think MSNBC & their hosts are selling their viewing audience short by harping on this sad story. get over it an move on to the many important things that actually effect the wider viewing audience.

My OP was sort of tongue-in-cheek, but I do have a problem with the amount of time they are spending on this story. It's pretty juvenile what they are doing.

And yes, there are really serious things that are going on in this country, yet they're giving time to this tabloid crap.

I liked watching MSNBC, especially Hayes and Maddow, but they're doing it, too. It's really unbecoming, and I'm not watching that much anymore. It's turned me off.

MSNBC ratings are tanking... I wonder why.

I live in NJ near NYC... no one here is making a big deal about Weiner. He probably won't win, but it's not a national news story, much bigger news stories are being discussed. The local NYC tv stations are not talking about Weiner at all.

However, Weiner does need to get out of politics and take time to fix his personal issues. If he doesn't get his problem under control, no one will ever believe that somewhere down the road he won't make himself a candidate for blackmail.
