I presume youll make up your mind by the end of this sentence whether North Carolina becoming the latest state to allow concealed-carry permit holders to bring their guns to playgrounds, recreation areas and schools is a good idea. In the case of schools, the guns must be stay in a locked vehicle, and Im sure youve already determined whether, and why, thats an outrage.
From the Charlotte Observer:
Rep. Jacqueline Schaffer, R-Mecklenburg, helped craft the final version of the bill. She said a new law would simply add to the places where permit holders can legally leave guns locked in cars. Schaffer said the bill will increase safety by helping people carry guns for their protection while going to campus and dropping kids off at school.
I presume even before reading that excerpt, youve determined if you are the sort of person who feels better having a gun on hand in case anything happens, or if you wonder how frightened you have to be if you cant leave the house without thinking robbers and murderers are going to come upon you like medieval highwaymen.
Im guessing that by now youve already decided whether its citizen protection or government overreach that North Carolinas new gun bill, which was passed July 24 and could be signed into law by Gov. Pat McCrory as early as July 25, prevents local governments from issuing their own gun bans, something that was allowed in a previous iteration signed into law in 2011. Youre either upset or heartened that the North Carolina bill allows private property owners to institute their own bans, which means a field or facility owned by a private youth league could turn someone away for bringing a gun. Youve already figured out whether its civil disobedience or constitutional disrespect when, in other states, localities pass gun bans at parks and recreational facilities anyway, despite state law saying they cant.

(48,121 posts)So if a person does X that entices a criminal they are negligent?
I am sure there are many who would like to punish the victims of crimes.
So if I leave my bike outside at the gas station near here and someone steals it am I just stupid or negligent? If a woman walks home alone in an area that is in a bad neighborhood and is attacked is she to blame for the choice she made?
What if she is in a small town in Ohio and underage and drinks too much and people take advantage of her - is she to be blamed for not being more cautious because she should have known other teens would use this as a way to take advantage of her?

And negligence with respect to firearms speaks to all manner of handling it -- including storage. Gun ownership, unlike bicycle ownership, carries huge responsibility.
No one ever stole a bike then went on to murder someone with it. Even in Ohio.

(48,121 posts)is the person being robbed responsible for being robbed (ie, is the victim of a crime responsible for what others do)?
Leave your keys in the car, someone steals it and hits others - your fault?
If you are saying temptations are too great so people should know that and take precautions, then where else does that apply?
