http://www.wimp.com/creaturecaught/maybe unidentified jelly fish? Later in the video it throws out a fancy bunch of complex organs, either for feeding or reproduction, can't tell--very Abyss like!

(26,603 posts)and the date/description, I'm assuming it was the same video. I'm sure the site in the OP is racking up hits - I've certainly contributed my share this morning...

Very interesting creature. I hope scientists will be able to tell us more about it soon.
Thanks librechik!

(8,303 posts)some say it is reticulum and some enigmatica, but they all seem to agree that it is deepstaria.
I saw the original video a while ago and went hunting for info. I know nothing about ocean creatures, but this sure is interesting.
If my ignorance is not misleading me, these things are sort of deepwater sloth jellyfishes. They hang out and occasionally net something that swims into the giant bag. And the organs seen near the end of the original video are its gonads?
Gonads:
I found the really interesting article that I had bookmarked when the vid first surfaced. It had the most info of any I could find at the time.

Yup...clearly I did not read the comments before posting, lol.
I hate when that happens.

(15,882 posts)We often speak of pressure in terms of atmospheres. One atmosphere is equal to the weight of the earth's atmosphere at sea level, about 14.6 pounds per square inch. If you are at sea level, each square inch of your surface is subjected to a force of 14.6 pounds.
The pressure increases about one atmosphere for every 10 meters of water depth. At a depth of 5,000 meters the pressure will be approximately 500 atmospheres or 500 times greater than the pressure at sea level. That's a lot of pressure."
From NOAA, here.
I think that monitor was showing roughly 5044 meters.
