Franklin Graham refused to say President Obama is a Christian altho he says right away in the interview that 'he can't answer that question for anybody.' Later Franklin Graham says Santorum's a Christian 'because his values are so clear' and 'no question he's a man of faith.'
Graham also added he 'thinks Newt is a Christian' and he thinks President Obama is 'more concerned about Muslims than he is about Christians being murdered in the world.'
Note John Heilemann's pointing out Graham's 'amazing double standard' regarding his decisions about who's a Christian and who's not.
Heated exchange begins at 11:43 on the video.

(10,602 posts)The "plastic jesus" crowd is a serious threat to the Republic. They demand that our institutions govern by biblical principles. It is about enforcing your beliefs on non believers by force if necessary. They are more a clear and present danger to our democracy that Al Qeda. If we do not fight back about what they are up to then you can kiss the country good by.
Now that they have inflicted religion into the political process makes religion itself fair game. We are on our way to theocracy if the GOP is given any power in November. That fact that they are so bold as to demand religious testing for office should result in a flashback backlash.

The visibly shocked Morning Joe crew pressed Graham further and discovered that he was far more willing to accept the other presidential candidates personal testaments. Graham agreed that Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich were both Christians, while raising some concerns about Mitt Romneys Mormon faith:
WILLIE GEIST (co-host, Morning Joe): Do you believe that Rick Santorum is Christian?
GRAHAM: I think so.
GEIST: Why is it different for Rick Santorum?
GRAHAM: Well, because his values are so clear on moral issues .
JOHN HEILEMANN (New York Magazine): Thats an amazing double standard. Your reaction to the difference. The question about Rick Santorum and President Obama, I think, just exposes an incredible double standard youre applying to the two people. Theyre exactly the same situation.
ALEX WITT (host, NOW): Reverend, what about Mitt Romney is he a Christian?
GRAHAM: Hes a Mormon most Christians would not recognize Mormons as part of the Christian faith. [...]
GRAHAM: Any one of these candidates. Newt Gingrich. Now, Newt has been married several times, so hes had those issues but he can make a good candidate. And I think that Newt is a Christian, at least he told me he is.

(6,960 posts)What a prime example of why primogeniture, hereditary aristocracy is ultimately so weak.
Really, the only reason Frank Graham is a preacher is because it was easy and comfortable to follow in the footsteps of his father.
He ain't his dad.
I'm not a Christian and I have lots of conflict with Billy Graham on theological issues, but Billy Graham would not have been so shallow and vapid as Franklin. Billy Graham is a registered Democrat ( http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/8326362#.T0O6LlHYdSU ) though certainly leaned conservative -- but he seemed to know where to draw the line on religion and politics.
Frank Graham is a apple that has certainly fallen far away from the tree.

(15,392 posts)He certainly worked hard for several decades to be seen as the White House minister, attempting to insinuate himself with presidents dating back to Truman, who he pissed off. After a visit, Graham and some other ministers stopped to take a picture of them quasi-kneeling with part of the White House in the background, and Truman thought it looked like they were praying for him - not in a good way like let him make good choices, Lord, but more in the way of, please let him truly become a Christian, Lord.
