BREAKING: Gore's Climate Reality Project Joins Forces with President Obama's Organizing for Action

BREAKING: Gore's Climate Reality Project Joins Forces with President Obama's Organizing for Action

by julesrules

Wow! Former Vice President Al Gore's Climate Reality Project team just completed three days of climate change leadership training in Chicago today. The news was exciting and groundbreaking. The group is joining forces with President Obama's grassroots organization, Organizing for Action in the August campaign, "Turn Up the Heat on Climate Deniers". A previous leadership training session that took place in Istanbul, Turkey in June of 2013 had attendees from 97 countries. And, at least two more training sessions are being planned for next year which you can find out about by emailing them at tcrp@climatereality.com.

More than 1500 people from more than 70 different countries were represented in the Chicago training. Of those, over 150 Organizing for Action members from all 50 United States, including OFA leadership, were in attendance. Members of both groups will be working together during the month to deliver Climate Denier Awards to members of Congress who have previously made public statements to denying the reality that climate change. It's real, happening now and caused by human activities. And, it's time our leaders accept the overwhelming consensus of scientists throughout the world and do something about the threat.

Even better, the Climate Reality Project's wildly popular (nearly 17 million Youtube views, setting a world record, and 165 million Twitter impressions) "24 Hours of Reality" is returning this October 22 and 23 of this year in an effort to raise awareness of the costs to all of us of inaction on this imminent threat to our health, property and security. After all, we don't have another planet to move to if things get much worse.

In a year when wildfires have destroyed large tracts of land and personal property in Arizona, Nevada, California and Washington states ... and floods, drought, extreme heat and hurricanes devastated others, the call to action was loud and clear.

I haven't seen him as he's still there but I look forward to helping recruit attendees for the ten or more presentations he's committed to providing.

Based on one of his recent speeches in here somewhere from 2-3 days ago. I really think he will.

But people probably used a great deal of fossil fuels getting to these events, thereby contributing to warming/change.

What we all need to be doing, especially in the US, is cutting way back on fossil fuel consumption.

Airplane flights are probably the worst contributor. Work to make flihgts cut back by 20% next year and watch what happens to the atmosphere. Think of it as an experiment.

I do hate to turn up the heat on anti-deniers, but it is a bit hypocritical to ""burn more to save more."" Eh?

Unfortunately we need to use the resources that are available to us in order to do this. It is not the fault of the organizers to use what industry provides. We have to change consciousness to change industry.

Video conferencing, forums like DU, voice messaging........

The work to be done face-to-face is local. Education can come from the internet and e-books.

My education comes from books and the internet and I can educate nearly any denier who is truly interested in an honest discussion.

Keep burning that oil. Keep contributing.

One of the hardest arguments to defeat was the one where the deniers all blasted Gore for flying around the country - burning oil - while preaching.

I know no one wants to give up their pleasures or their comforts, but that is a dead end. Some sacrifice needs to be made by the people in the US. Without it we all look like hypocrites.

Your argument is that if society offers us one way to travel and that way of travel is not ideal simply because that is how far industry has allowed us to evolve, then we cannot use that way of traveling to talk about how bad that way of traveling is and how we need to progress. Instead we should stand in one spot and do all our work from there until industry evolves, and only then can we use the better product to speak without being a hypocrite. It's absurd. I'm sorry.

it is even more dramatic the number of miles we don't drive thanks to public transportation, urban growth boundary and other wonderfully green and PROGRESSIVE things they do.

I was pissed over Chained CPI as well as a few other issues.

Gore has a very worthy cause going, but it won't get financial aid from me through OFA.
