SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- The Department of Homeland Security is beefing up its presence at airports, train stations and other travel hubs in the United States in the wake of global travel warning imposed on all U.S. citizens.
Local authorities are not going into specifics but the San Francisco Police Department does acknowledge receiving a bulletin by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and DHS. The SFPD says their officers are monitoring various areas of the city and will determine if additional resources are necessary.
They say they have the ability to rapidly deploy and redeploy resources as the department deems necessary.
No specific location has been mentioned, but authorities are keeping a close eye on airports, train stations and other transportation hubs. There is also increased scrutiny of visitors coming into the United States.
These latest measures have been implemented out of an abundance of caution.
....
The bulletin sent by the FBI and DHS urging local law enforcement to be vigilant was classified, which reflects the sensitivity and seriousness of the situation.

I viewed myself as an American and I worked as a journalist for some of the most respected newsrooms in this country. Still, these jokes make me question my American-ness.
The unbroken thread in the U.S. history of discrimination against Asian Americans is the presumption that they are not, and don't deserve to be American. The earliest Asian American immigrants, which the U.S. railroad industry needed for labor, were met with resistance and violence. The Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 was enacted to prevent Asian immigrants from entering the country. During World War II, the U.S. government questioned the loyalty of 110,000 Japanese Americans, forced them to abandon their homes and businesses, and incarcerated them in remote internment camps.

(154,021 posts)Sorry but Al Qaida is a shadow of it's former self and Al Qaida could be launching a strategic attack like 911 are mutually exclusive.
Moreover, let me add this, in a democracy full trust in the government is toxic to that democracy.
You might try that...after all, in theory, they are my employees

(154,021 posts)Is concerned. He accelerated the process after 911. Empires in decline suck for the civil liberties of their citizens...they just do. And presidents are not the most powerful men in the word and independent actors regardless...of myth.

(154,021 posts)Followed Reagan...all the way to Truman. There is a continuum of policy. In the modern era Echellon was the turn inwards into the US after OKC, but you'd better read on CONTRIELPRO and the Church Committee.
I recognize what you obviously do not. There is a continuity in policy going back almost sixty years. It's just gotten far worst in the last decade of so.

(12,958 posts)American exceptionalism. Bushes actions after 911 were different though, because they were an excuse to launch a massive right wing money laundering operation.

Oh and look at the list of young 'uns with Iraq and all that...they'll be back

(12,958 posts)Everytime Bush was in political trouble, they trotted out a 'terra lert'.
I remember one where they said to be on the lookout for people walking around in big cities carrying atlases....lol.
Did you believe Bushes fake 'terra lerts'?

(154,021 posts)He is not bush, he is not even like bush. He is an imperial president at the end of Empire. His behavior is predicated by that. And at this point he is trying to defend the NSA from the attacks from people who question their violations of the fourth amendment. His successor will continue the same sick behavior regardless of party, just like bush followed Clinton with it.
You might want to pick a history book and stop with the fracking cult of personality. It is tiresome, and yes, un-American.

(9,213 posts)was there visiting family....was at a place overlooking the city, and this was in the future but I wasn't aware it was the future in the dream, clearly saw the Golden Gate bridge and the familiar skyline....except some of the buildings were moving, like in the future the buildings can move. One was like a big wheel that was turning into the ground. Another....we were just standing there watching and a huge building moved across the whole city from left to right. Weird!

(794 posts)In a more perfect situation this would be due to increased calls from right wing leaders for an armed insurrection consisting of fear-infused gundamentalist conspiracy theory mongers and their oh so precious gun collections. Future visions of the NRA's American dystopia of regional and local warlords armed with private gun collections representing bigots, racists and homophobes are hinted at whenever the agents of right wing destruction discuss their aims for the social disintegration and privatization of America.
I'm hopeful that LEOs will be going after right wing domestic terrorists before they are able to cause anymore death and destruction for Americans disabled with the least protections. Sometimes the level of hatred expressed by teabaggers for America is shared by their Muslim fundamentalist extremist friends. Fundamentalists always find common cause in hatred, and Teabaggers love to hate America for all the same reasons the muslim fundies complain. Birds of a feather...
