President Obama requested prayers for his family

http://blog.seattlepi.com/seattlepolitics/2012/02/23/pray-for-my-family-pres-to-seattle-pastor/

President Obama met a pastor when he was in Seattle recently. The pastor said he prays for Obama. Obama responded by asking for prayers for his wife and children.

Doesn't this sound as though Obama knows of many threats made against his family? Threats against his family probably makes him weigh heavily everything he says and does.

Or am I reading too much into this?

Since he is a Christian, it makes sense he would want prayers lifted up for his wife and children.

Maybe... ?

However, the standard religious pandering that now has almost all politicians doing the "God Bless America" nonsense at the end of most every speech is a likelier explanation.

Or he's just being nice. I know if someone tells me they "pray for me" I try to suppress what I really think about the likely efficacy of such a practice (and avoid the parable of the Pharisee telling the world about their prayers) and just take it in the loving and friendly spirit it is probably meant. Thank you, I'll say to the pray-er. Next time this happens I'll remember to tell them to add my family to their prayers. That will definitely please the type.

They sure could use it. There are a lot of nutjobs out there who would love nothing more than to assassinate Obama, Michelle, or his precious daughters. Mostly because of the color of his skin. I trust the Secret Service to keep them all safe.

I would think that all the negativity from wingers like Limbaugh/Beck types cannot help but slip into their realm at times. The older girl Malia may accept that it comes with her fathers job, but the younger girl Sasha probably needs her mother and father to counsel and comfort her a little more through it....sigh....

to hear the kind of shit being tossed around by the republicans and trumpeted by the media 24hrs a day. It has got to be affecting them on some level, and we haven't seen the worst of it yet I'm afraid.

I know it is troubling to me and many of my friends. It's relentless and really baseless- but it 'sells'.

I hope that is what it is, but I'm also pretty sure that threats are being made and investigated daily.

It's an angry, frustrated and ugly society we have brewing these days.
