Two people were arrested after making a disturbance at an appearance today by former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld at the Truman Library in Independence.
Independence Police Capt. John Cato said the two either refused to restrict themselves to an area in front of the library set aside for protestors or refused to leave the property. They were arrested for trespassing, a municipal offense.

The two arrested were veterans who were there to arrest Rumsfeld for war crimes.

(11,481 posts)We're back to "Free Speech Zones""? I was always told that in America, EVERYWHERE is a free speech zone. Apparently not in Missouri.

(28 posts)It is a pet peeve of mine when people go into a building, then are disruptive and don't follow the rules of that place, then are asked to leave, then they refuse, and then after they refuse to leave peacefully they are arrested.
Then people complain that they are arrested like it was some big injustice.

But if I didn't, and I got arrested, I wouldn't pretend like I was in the right.

(96,793 posts)2. They weren't disruptive.
3. They weren't arrested for being disruptive.
4. Facts. They matter.

(28 posts)1. Ok, they didn't go into the building. Hardly relevant.
2. They were being disruptive if they were protesting in an area they were told not to and then refusing to leave.
3. Being disruptive and refusing to leave led to them being arrested for trespassing.

(96,793 posts)They were standing on the steps in silence wearing their fatigues. They refused to move and were arrested.
So the arrest was for refusing to follow directions.
The arresting officers were more disruptive than these two veterans.

or
refused to leave the property. They were arrested for trespassing,
Any "disturbance" was created by those enabling and protecting the war criminal not there two soldiers.
Wow 25 posts and I already am detection a pattern.

(28 posts)don't leave when you are told to, then you are not welcome there. When you are not welcome there, you can be arrested for trespassing. How is that hard to understand?

Saturday, 25 February, 2012 in Occupy KC News, Updates
Today, Occupy KC and Veterans for Peace members took a trip to Truman Library in Independence to pay a visit to known war criminal Donald Rumsfeld. Veterans for Peace members participated in a freeze mob on the library steps until one Iraq War veteran and one Afghanistan War veteran were detained and arrested by Independence Police. The veterans were later bailed out by Occupy KC and will receive legal support from the Occupy KC legal team.
Inside of the library, KCUR radio host and Kansas City Star political correspondent Steve Kraske interviewed Donald Rumsfeld. Rumsfeld was interrupted when Occupy KC activists mic checked him, demanding that Rumsfeld turn himself in for lying to the American people and drawing the nation into an illegal war of aggression. Supporters of Rumsfeld turned on the activists making it known that they believe Occupy is whats wrong with the country and using slurs to describe one female activist. Occupy activists continued by reading the names of fallen service members from the area, but were removed from the auditorium.
Kraske and Rumsfeld were interrupted for 10 minutes before the crowd was calmed and the interview continued. Although Rumsfeld has yet to turn himself into authorities, for 10 minutes truth spoke to power and our fallen brothers and sisters, from Kansas City and Iraq, were remembered.
