Just so we don't forget there are benefits to taking birth control pills, not all of them having to do with pregnancy prevention:

(19,736 posts)Not because of the birth control aspect, but because I had some debilitating cramps, irregular periods, massive bleeding for WEEKS on end that there were two choices: Bleed to death or use the pill. My mom wasn't worried. It was her idea.

(36,286 posts)You are correct that many people are on the pill for reasons other than contraception. If it helps their tender consciences, let the bishops think all their employees are using the pill for those reasons!

Women who take the pill may be better organized in their lives -- better planners.
They may also be more affluent and better educated. Perhaps they simply lead more conscious lives.
Or -- maybe women who use the pill have more love in their lives and less pressure from the fear of pregnancy and a large family.
These numbers could be explained by a number of factors other than the chemistry of the pill.
But then again, it may be the effect of the pill on a woman's biology.
This deserves further study in my opinion.

It could be related to fewer pregnancies over their lifespan, since pregnancy and childbirth is a big cause of mortality in young women.
