Report: Michael Hastings feared his car had been tampered with
War correspondent Michael Hastings, who died in a car crash in April, had reportedly become concerned that his car had been tampered with in the days leading up to his death, and asked friend Jordanna Thigpen to borrow hers, according to new profile in the LA Weekly.
From the report:
Helicopters often circle over the hills, but Hastings believed there were more of them around whenever he was at home, keeping an eye on him. He came to believe his Mercedes was being tampered with. Nothing I could say could console him, Thigpen says.
One night in June, he came to Thigpens apartment after midnight and urgently asked to borrow her Volvo. He said he was afraid to drive his own car. She declined, telling him her car was having mechanical problems.
He was scared, and he wanted to leave town, she says.
The next day, around 11:15 a.m., she got a call from her landlord, who told her Hastings had died early that morning. His car had crashed into a palm tree at 75 mph and exploded in a ball of fire.

He was just paranoid, the US doesn't target journalist or whistle blowers....
The LA weekly article........http://www.laweekly.com/2013-08-22/news/michael-hastings-crash/
Rex
(65,616 posts)that would give him paranoid delusions someone is/war tampering with this car. I've seen people on drugs say/do stranger things. Was wondering why so many in the M$M were pushing the drugs angle.

(13,985 posts)You have no proof the crash happened because he was impared
Rex
(65,616 posts)but the narrative in the M$M is just that. So that explains it.
darkangel218
(13,985 posts)They actaully said the death happened rather fast. He died due to the impact, not because he was overdosing.
Keep making excuses, so far you're doing " great ".
Gah... And good nite.

(65,616 posts)I see my conversation is going right over your head or you are just that dense. Either way I could care less.

But if I die from an asp on the ass, look into it. And I don't even do meth!

(229 posts)Only states we don't like - Libya, Iran, Russia, China - do things like that. The USA has a near perfect record of upholding civil liberties ... well, except any time they would actually make a difference and wrench power from the powerful.
The sceptical might look into Gary Webb's suicide after tying the CIA to Cocaine - shot himself in the head - twice - yeah, right. Later came out in Senate Committee that, yes, the CIA did have a special 'arrangement' with the DEA after all.

Michael Hastings dies at 33; his article led general to resign
If one isn't suspicious, they're not thinking. There is an actual video of the car burning. It was an inferno. One of the neighbors said she heard an explosion that sounded like a bomb. The car engine was found over 100 feet from the car due to the explosion.
I'm not a conspiracy theorists, but I'm not a coincidence theorists either.
As I said, if one isn't suspicious, they're not thinking.
People running automotive websites expressed their doubts abt the official story:

(84,711 posts)that hopefully can be further explored. I still wonder where he was between when he asked to borrow his friend's car at 12:30 a.m. according to her and when the crashoccurred at 4:30 or so a.m.
Also, his brother seems to be very anxious to tie him into higher level drug use in the past months before accident-- but the coroner's report said what was found in his system was not "likely" to have caused the crash.
hack89
(39,171 posts)low levels of meth in his system at the time of his death doesn't mean he was not in a very bad place mentally and physically.
Here is a good description of the Meth experience:

(17,055 posts)really happened. Even if he was back using doesn't prove that's what caused the accident. Nor does it disprove it.
We'll never know is what I think.
