Bronx KFC turns away Iraq War vet over service dog: lawsuit

http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/kfc-turns-iraq-war-vet-service-dog-lawsuit-article-1.1432999?google_editors_picks=true

A disabled Iraq War veteran who worked at Ground Zero says the Colonel treated him like trash.

Charles Hernandez, 50, a retired public school administrator, claims he was refused service at a KFC in the Bronx after he brought his service dog into the fried chicken joint.

“Papi, there are no dogs allowed,” an employee allegedly told the vet on Feb. 26 when he tried to order a two-piece chicken meal and fries.

Hernandez, who uses the dog to ease his posttraumatic stress disorder, is suing for $1 million in Manhattan Federal Court. He claims the incident on Fordham Road humiliated him and exacerbated his PTSD.

... once it is established an animal is a service animal, it is illegal to inquire any further about what service it provides.

several people that it isn't at all uncommon over there to see people take their pets into shops and restaurants. I've been to places here in the U.S. that allow it, too. I don't see the harm as long as the animal is trained well, but some places have policies against it and people need to respect that.

My German friends were horrified and shocked when I told them we could not do that in the states.

I was in a restaurant here in the states and a lady had her service dog with her.
It was lying quietly under the table bothering no one.
I commented to our waitress about what a great thing service dogs are. She made some snide remark so I didn't continue. Her tip was greatly reduced.

I only wish folks could live in others shoes to see what their life is like before making judgements.
