The government needs to buy a bunch of military equipment and other stuff that the rich people are making for them. So the government goes to the rich people to borrow money to buy stuff from the rich people. Then the rich people hide their taxable income offshore or in some sort of tax shelter. That leaves the bottom 99% to pick up the tab.
So this national debt thing is just the vacuum created as the few at the top proceed to suck the last drops of wealth out of the many on the bottom.

(327 posts)Years ago I tutored a young man whose father is one of Governors of Oman. We were talking about all the big companies doing business in the Middle East. Off the top of his head he said, "Oh yeah, my father has been buying Ratheon [stock] since before the first invasion of Iraq." I thought to myself, "hmmmmm, fuck, rich people around the world make a fuck-ton of money as long as the American war machine is out there splattering folks."
The U.S. has no sovereign foreign policy.
We are a frat house that aspires to be a death cult.
Carry on.

(12,151 posts)It's even more circular and ludicrous, actually. We pay taxes. Rich people don't. Then rich people demand our tax dollars go to THEM to purchase things we don't need.
Then the rich people say we're too broke for any of our tax dollars to go to things that would help the rest of us in any way, which they call "mooching."
