From a topic posted August 8th. http://www.democraticunderground.com/10023428751
I may have posted this before, but have received no answer. I think it's important. In another thread a while back this was posted by livingwagenow. I've written an email but have received no reply. What is the name of this judge? I've Googled to my best ability.
re: Obama's Social Security cuts = Bill Clinton's NAFTA
When the topic is convenient to Republicans, they still love to blame free trade on Clinton, even though the version of NAFTA that we still operate under today isn't the same version that then Pres Clinton signed into law.
"A Ray-gun appointed federal judge took a scalpel to Clinton's NAFTA by scrapping the provisions that PROTECTED American jobs by keeping them here by striking down said provision/amendment while keeping the rest of the NAFTA law in place."
I've searched off and on for this person's name and have come up empty. If you can provide it, I'd appreciate it.

(9,145 posts)I'm beginning to doubt the veracity of the claim about the "Federal Judge". Can anyone say there was any such change?

(62,444 posts)NAFTA involves three countries, all of which have federal court systems with federal judges in them.
Can you identify a party to the suit?

(9,145 posts)Was there a Reagan appointed Federal Judge who changed how NAFTA protected American jobs?
Thanks for answering my plea jberryhill. This was the thread from which it came.

I've tried asking this person livingwagenow on the thread and in an email via DU. I've searched as much as I'm able.

Maybe this wasn't posted in earnest. I'd like to know though, as it would be useful in debating friends on facebook.

(62,444 posts)...and sometimes in ways which change the way a law is interpreted.
On the quoted information you provided, out of hundreds of lawsuits which, in one way or another, involved NAFTA, there is not enough to go on in terms of figuring out what, if anything, the quote might be talking about.
It's as if you told me you were from New York, and I said, "Hey, I know a guy in New York. He's really tall, wears glasses, and his name is Jim. Do you know him?"
Whenever, in any argument, someone refers to a court action which did one thing or another, ask that person what case they are talking about. If they cannot cite the case they are talking about, then their point is simply unsupported.

(9,145 posts)It seemed like there would have been a real uproar if some judge came along and struck down the protection part of NAFTA. Though with all the impeachment brouhaha, it might have gone undetected.
I'm calling it a lie until proven otherwise.
