Duhn-duhn...A Paula Deen-esque celebrity chef will shoot an unarmed, hoodie-wearing black teen she believes is following her in an upcoming episode of "Law & Order: SVU," an individual with knowledge of the episode told TheWrap on Friday.
Cybill Shepherd will star as the Deen-esque celebrity chef Jolene Castille, who claims self-defense, saying that she'd heard police were on the hunt for a rapist who fit the victim's description.
The episode draws from two real-life incidents that brought racial tensions in America to the fore. Unarmed Florida teen Martin was fatally shot by neighborhood watch member George Zimmerman in 2012.

My first thought was a line from "The Producers": "Talk about bad taste."

(1,135 posts)This is nauseating! What purpose does doing that storyline serve? It's not funny and it only makes ugly, uglier.
It's as if they are celebrating racism, doing this.

L&O SVU has for years drawn inspiration from headlines. This is nothing new. They are all artists (writers, actors, directors, etc...) who see their world around them and interpret that into their art. What's the problem? I will wait and see how they do it. I will watch the episode and see what avenue they take it down. SVU has never been a unicorn and fairy-dust type of show. At times it has a victorious ending and at others it is tragic. But no matter the ending there is always a victim of a horrific crime. So out of the gate, in every single episode, there is tragedy. What's wrong with them taking on a real-world injustice?
