For those who are interested, Trans: The Movie is an excellent documentary that provides great insight into the lives of transgender people from the perspective of various transgender persons interviewed and their loved ones.
Unfortunately, it is not available for free on line. Watch the trailer at this link below and/or maybe catch a showing or purchase the DVD:
"TRANS" is an up-close and very personal journey into the transgender world through the memorable stories and the unusual lives of a remarkable cast of characters.
It begins with the story of Lt. Commander Christopher McGinn, a Navy flight surgeon selected by NASA to serve on two space missions. But, upon her discharge from the armed forces, Chris McGinn would set out upon a different mission from which she was never to return.
Now Dr. Christine McGinn is able to tell her own amazing story, (picked up by the media on both MSNBC and the Oprah Winfrey show) and provide an entrance into a complex and dramatic world that is "TRANS."
Some of the characters featured in TRANS include:
Danann, a 7 year old MTF (male to female) who knew who she was at 2 years old and has spent the rest of her short life making believers out of her parents and the rest of her world.
Cris, who only recently came to the realization that he is transgendered in a college classroom.
Pam and Erica, who had never met, but had been living the same lie for over 50 years. Now they are about to undergo surgery and begin new lives

Here is a review from Shift Happens:
Trans: The Movie
While no two stories are exactly alike, Trans: The Movie gives us a glimpse into the lives and experiences of a variety of different transgender people.
The sad truth is that our society is not a safe place for transgender individuals. Many lose their families, their jobs, and their homes, simply by being true to who they are. With an attempted suicide rate of over 40%, even lives are lost.
As parents, family, partners and friends, we strive to understand that while the exterior of the person may change, their heart and soul often remain the same. We discover that transgender people are no different than their "cisgendered" counterparts (those whose gender identify is in alignment with the sex they were assigned at birth).
Often the lack of understanding breeds fear and contempt for transgender people. It is our hope that as we come to understand and support transgender individuals, we can demonstrate to others that change is possible, and even desirable. Together, we can open others' eyes and hearts, with the goal of ultimately making the world a safer place for our transgender loved ones.
