Attention: Congressman
Technology is over-running our rights as citizens. The computers in our homes belong to us. The information on those computers belong to us. We did not surrender our 4th Amendment rights simply because Internet companies found a way to steal that information from our personal computers.
Furthermore, we did not grant permission to the government to use the information in their intelligence gathering. If they need it, they should get it the same way they always have gotten it - by warrant with a reasonable cause.
We ask that the laws be upgraded to protect us from unreasonable search and seizure of our personal information and communications. When we sign a contract with an Internet company, we do so with the understanding that they are entrusted with our information and are obligated to protect it at all times. That is no different from the IRS or a hospital or a credit card company.
Simply because a law can easily be broken does not mean the law no longer exists or that the individuals right is no longer valid. It only means that we need to strengthen our laws that protect individual privacy.
As a Congressman, we would request that you submit legislation to protect the privacy rights of all Americans and to put in strict penalties by force of law for anyone that would violate those rights.
