He is the very definition of "rich person."
Other rich guys have gone on to lead cities, states, and countries by connecting with the poor and with the average. Rmoney simply is incapable of that.
Just recently:
"Anne drives a couple of Cadillacs, actually." Then, to walk *that* back, he explains that they have one at their house in New Hampshire and one at their house in California, and *then* chides people by saying that if you begrudge people success then vote for then other guy.
His very latest: "I don't follow NASCAR from race to race, but I enjoy it. Some of the team owners are very good friends of mine."
When you see him with that sweater tied over his shoulders and wearing those Mom jeans with a laundered, pressed, $150 shirt and $400 shoes, he sure does cut the figure of a regular guy, huh?
He is simply not genetically capable of being other than who and what he is. A person of privilege who knows it and enjoys it and can not relate to those who are not. I do actually think he cares on some intellectual level about his lessers. His issue is that he tries to connect where he can't and comes across badly, time and time again.
Contrast that with, say, the Kennedys. They never hid their wealth. But they connected. Rmoney just doesn't know how.

(115,706 posts)He has absolutely no idea what it's like not to be stinking rich.
You qualify as a member of the 1% if your income is at least $250K/year. But although that's a very good place to be financially, those folks are not in Mitten's league - not even close. A $250K+ income is what we'd expect of the so-called professional class - experienced doctors, some lawyers, corporate officers, for example. They are doing well. They have nice homes in nice suburbs and they drive BMWs and Audis and Lexuses. Their kids go to good schools and can go to summer camp and take ballet lessons and eventually go to good private colleges. But these professionals still have to work. They have to have jobs to maintain their lifestyle, and they could lose those jobs.
Unlike the super-rich, like Romney.
He doesn't have to work; he makes millions on his investments. Although he "worked" for Bain Capital he's never actually needed to have any kind of job because his family was rich, too. He has never had to contemplate the possibility of not being rich. He can't imagine what it's like not to be able to buy pretty much anything he wants. And everybody he has ever associated with is that kind of rich - not plain old 1%er, professional-class, BMW-driving, suburb-living rich, but filthy, stinking, never-have-to-work-a-day-in-your-life rich. He lives in a gold-plated bubble and he's never left it.

(8,582 posts)Where is their drivers license issued? What state? They can only have one residence for one state issued drivers license to use nationwide.
Most states ( except maybe Florida?) will not allow you to have two drivers licenses from two different states.
I'm not saying they have more than one drivers license for each state where a car is located, just a thought about it.

(18,537 posts)Bill Murray in Ground Hog Day. As he tries to recreate his perfect day with Andie McDowell, when he's having the snowball fight for the umpteenth time he starts ranting about how much he loves kids, he wants a whole bunch of them, "Hey, any of you kids up for adoption."
Desparate and phony and disconnected.

How long before Rmoney tries to kill an innocent Ground Hog?

(24,461 posts). . . because at first glance, you think "COME on. Not even RMoney could be THIS insufferably tone deaf".
Holy shit, yes he CAN.
My God . . . Michael Kinsley once said "a gaffe is when a politician accidentally tells the truth." He's seriously GOT to get a coach if he has ANY hope of being successful in this political thing. I for one hope he doesn't. I also think with this latest statement, it could be too late for him.
Americans (at least the ones with brain stems) hate Reaganomics. They hate what Reaganomics have DONE to this country. I can't even believe that he thinks more than a few could even be on BOARD with his way of thinking. Like a neutered dog, he really DOES NOT GET IT.
If I were the DNC, I would grab that segment and run that into the ground. Collect his giftastic statements. Please. The President will win in a worse landslide than Reagan/Mondale. When your own party doesn't even like you, you're chances aren't really that good to begin with.

Actually, he was born safe at home but somehow believes he hit a home run.
