A 1-year-old girl was shot dead in her babysitter's arms in New Orleans, prompting the the city's mayor to declare "enough is enough" as police hunted for two suspects with little help from witnesses.
Londyn Samuels, who was just learning to walk, was struck by a bullet fired into her 18-year-old nanny's back as she carried the toddler home from the park.

"In the back of my head, this is a bad dream I haven't woken up from yet."
Londyn's mother was working at a non-profit cafe dedicated to anti-violence when the shooting happened. She said at a news conference that she breaks down in tears every time she looks at a picture of her daughter.

(53,661 posts)This is the bitter fruit of America's gun culture. I don't care if they want to call it gang related, as if it's 'just something people do,' and sweep it under the rug. If these were some young men did this, the question that doesn't even need to be answered is why they grew up to think a gun would help.
This crosses racial lines, too, for those who want to sneer 'Chicago, NOLA, what did you expect.' We all bleed the same.
This little girl was the light of her mother's life and her face shows a baby who was loved and loving life.
And she is dead, and all for nothing but for some who want to sell guns. I don't care if they are legal or illegal. It's not the way to solve anything.
For the baby, mom, babysitter and the dad and whole family.

Police: 2-year-old boy injured in shooting
A 2-year-old boy was shot in what police are calling a drive-by shooting in Lincoln Heights Friday afternoon in the 900 block of Adams Street. Dispatchers first reported that the boy was three years old.
The boy was sitting in an older model Honda Accord when he was shot about 1 p.m., police said.
The young child was shot once in the leg.
Police say that the shot went in and out of his body. He was transported to Cincinnati Childrens Hospital Medical Center. The child has since been released....
