We are the US. The US is us.

In another thread on DU, I used the word "we" to refer to the United States of America. That created a series of misunderstandings. But it's interesting in its own right, I think. Language is a funny thing. We can refer to a small group or an entire nation. And, yet, we are the US.

The US is a representative democracy, so it actually is we who are the US. We do elect our representatives. We have elected a House of Representatives that has a majority of Republicans. Individually, that body does not represent us, but as a nation, it does, because we elected it. And there's a dilemma. The same thing applies to everyone we elect to represent US.

We elect those who represent us and they act. When they act, it is we who act in reality. We are responsible for the people we elect to office.

Which brings up 2014. We will choose our representatives once again. They will act. They represent us and are the we in the US.

If we do not approve of what we (the US) do, then we must act to elect those who agree with us. That is our responsibility. Because we are responsible for those we elect and who act as the US. If the US acts badly, we are responsible, ultimately, for those actions.

GOTV 2014! Please! Make the US act as we want them to act. It's up to us to create a better US.
