'Rupert Murdoch's wife is a Chinese spy'

Australian mining tycoon and election hopeful Clive Palmer has threatened to sue Rupert Murdoch and accused his estranged wife of "spying".

While hitting the breakfast television circuit on Thursday, Palmer also made accusations on the Nine Network's Today show about Murdoch's estranged wife, Wendi Deng.

"You know, Rupert Murdoch's wife Wendi Deng is a Chinese spy, and that's been right across the world," he alleged.

"She's been spying on Rupert for years, giving money back to Chinese intelligence. Read the truth about it.

"She was trained in southern China. I'm telling you the truth, I'm telling you the truth.''

A stunned Today host Karl Stefanovic interrupted Palmer, questioning whether he had "lost the plot".

But Palmer continued: "Wendy Deng is a Chinese spy, that's why Rupert Murdoch got rid of her, and that's the truth. And this guy wants tocontrol Australian politics.

Other than that it sounds as if Palmer jumped the shark here for publicity.

But, no, I can't imagine Wendy could not have found a better soul mate than Rupert. Since he doesn't appear to have one, poor thing.

My weird-stuff-o-meter is pegged out on this one.

An eccentric Australian businessman who is contesting this weekend’s general election claimed today that Rupert Murdoch’s ex-wife Wendi Deng is a Chinese spy ‘and that’s why Rupert got rid of her.’

Multi-millionaire Clive Palmer, 59, renowned for his plans to construct a replica of the Titanic in conjunction with a Chinese company and for his dreams of creating an animated Jurassic Park in Queensland, also said today that he was planning to sue Mr Murdoch.

He was furious about an article in a Murdoch newspaper, The Australian, which questioned his wealth and whether he was a university professor and a mining magnate, as he claims.

Good gawd, wealth is wasted on the rich. Still, Murdoch is an evil POS.

6. THU 21 JUL 2011 - Lightning-quick reactions: was Wendi a secret agent?

The alacrity with which Wendi Deng leapt to her husband Rupert Murdoch's defence on Tuesday, when a plate of shaving foam threatened his dignity, reminded some within the UK's intelligence community that it was once accepted - quite seriously - that Wendi was a Chinese secret agent.

The apparent ease with which she seems to have left her native China to study in the USA under the auspices of an American couple who sponsored her were behind the rumours, along with China's assumed desire to get close to the centre of American corporate power.

Then there was the mystery of her early days in the United States, before she met Murdoch.

Australian web magazine Crikey, investigating Rupert's third wife shortly after they married in 1999, quoted Deng's economics professor at California State University, Ken Chapman, as saying: "She was a strange person. You never really know what to believe about her.
