Sun Tzu: "Strategy without tactics is the slowest route to victory. Tactics without strategy....

is the noise before defeat."

In my view, this is exactly what Obama is proposing: bombing a few targets in Syria (a tactical move) without having an overall strategy for success. Thus it is doomed to failure from simply a military standpoint, according the the Art of War.

Unless, of course, they actually have a strategy which is regime change to a puppet state at all costs (the neocon plan)......

unless you take the long view and say that success would be preventing the future use or proliferation of chemical weapons.

There's been very little use of chemical weapons since the Geneva Convention in 1925, and the goal is to keep it that way. So success would be a continuation of the status quo - something that nobody is likely to notice really.

but enforcing an international law can be done in many ways, and is a whole different thing. What counts is that it is effective and limited to its main objective.

This is about politics in the U.S. and Israel. It has nothing to do with how Syria ends up.

Hence, when able to attack, we must seem unable; when using our forces, we must seem inactive; when we are near, we must make the enemy believe we are far away; when far away, we must make him believe we are near. Hold out baits to entice the enemy. Feign disorder, and crush him.

-Sun Tzu

Compare this level of intellect to our elected officials. Thank fuck we don't have Sun Tzu as our opponent, he'd conquer this nation in a week with guys like Kerry and Boehner running the country.
