This debate has certainly shaken things up and people are finding unlikely allies on both sides. President Obama is a really smart guy, so I'm almost certain he knows that lobbing random missiles into Syria, against the will of the world, is a terrible idea and won't solve anything. Call me cynical, but I'm hoping this is some sort of nth dimensional chess move designed to scramble the deck. Otherwise, I just don't get it.

(1,451 posts)If after the missile strike, Assad continues, then what? The US would have no choice but to do more strikes or "appear weak."

(5,937 posts)in fact is seems to be getting worse. A bluff would be incomprehensibly foolish at this point but that is the point in reality isn't it? The president has placed himself in a corner for which there is only one way out. The question I have is why? The concerted effort and push seems scripted, orchestrated. What the hell is going on?

(18,115 posts)I have the same question. Why? And to what end? No one has answered that.

(7,412 posts)It's turning into amateur hour, I think the administration is truly in over their heads at this point and just wants a way out. This is really going to mess with our chances in 2014 as well, they are pissing all the liberals off, you know, the people that organize and GOTV among other things.
