I am not War Weary

http://www.commondreams.org/further/2013/09/05-2

I am not ‘war-weary’; I’m angry

… angry at those who used sarin in Syria
… angry at those who think more killing is the answer
… angry at all presidents with blood on their hands
… angry at the talking heads who distinguish worthy from unworthy victims
… angry at politicians who care more about ‘credibility’ than about human life
… angry at those who call for war any time the flag is waved
… and angry at the endless headlines that claim we’re just ‘war-weary’, as though one good head-clearing nap would make Americans see the wisdom of killing to punish killing.
I am not ‘war-weary’; I’m sick

… sick at the sight of so many dead from breathing poison in Damascus
… sick at the thought of so many dead or damaged by uranium in Fallujah
… sick at the thought of Afghans massacred in Kandahar
… sick at the memory of Japanese vaporized in Hiroshima and Nagasaki
… sick at the memory of all the young soldiers sent to kill and die
… sick at the thought of all those shot, bayoneted, bombed, gassed, and nuked in war
… and sick at the thought of those who will die in a US attack on Damascus, because a ‘limited’ attack is still an attack.
I am not ‘war-weary’, but I am tired

… tired of peace prizes going to warmakers
… tired of politicians who play games with people’s lives
… tired of presidents and legislators who ignore the laws they’ve sworn to uphold
… tired of war drum beating that passes for journalism
… tired of the claim that war can be ‘humanitarian’
… tired of indoctrination into the false belief that war can bring peace
… and tired, so tired of hearing there will be “no boots on the ground”, as if a war that only kills foreigners is morally acceptable.
I am not ‘war-weary’; I am anti-war

… because war is always a failure
… a failure of diplomacy and understanding
… a failure of will and effort
… a failure of imagination and creativity
… a failure of ingenuity and investment
… a failure of compassion and morality
… a failure to invent and practice real, nonviolent humanitarian action.
I am not ‘war-wear’; I’m hungry for peace.

I have been protesting hard for 12 years. I have been up much of my personal life with the protesting and peace groups trying to end, stop, and again end our wars. I'm tired.

...I agree with one essential truth: War Is Hell.

Richard Attenborough, Baron Attenborough CBE, director of such war films as A Bridge Too Far and WWII RAF veteran, once said "War is not glamorous...it is something to be avoided with all our power."

I thank God I never saw action or had to take another human life, even though I knew from my first day at Basic Military Training that was a possibility.

Many of us see the political game being played. An endless parade of deception. Or now, the grandstanding in political real time Hollywood explanations. Modern news with zooming graphics. An academy award style Steven Spielberg presentation of Schindler's take on gassing the population. Its them or us rhetoric ranting on to fever pitch how humanity is at the edge. How about giving everyone in the world must have a gas mask, all backpacks are required to have a gas mask and hand held shoulder missile. America cannot stand by we must take action sounding like a George Lucas star war ultimatum. Our Hollywood political theater spiked in an endless lean forward stay tuned after these message station brakes.

The American communications medium has morphed station identification time in to a convoluted in your face make more money commercial time. Moreover the HBO series called 24 with kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer gives enough conspiracy theories for insider government treasonous game playing shape shifting power grabbing crazy to make Rush Limbaugh’s head spin around like one of the blue meanies in the Beatles Yellow Submarine.

America is being punked in real time by the same people that want to build a healthcare system, strengthen social security, eliminate poverty, create a culture of the living wage is rearing to this balancing act of switching as said from trillion dollar secret money Americans have to be concerned about to trillion dollar secret games that Americans need to send into a middle east cultural sink hole. All very tied to profiteering although it is a must for mankind to exist for America must be the leader. We all laugh and cry at the same time because the one percent are insane while among us being or seeming rational or just caviar sophistry, they have money we don’t.

People get so outraged over things bad people do, so they rush to create more war. But for the people stuck in the middle it's all the same. All they know is that they can't go to work, or school. They can't go to sleep at night and be sure they will wake up in the morning. They can't be sure their children will make it back home alive. For them it is all the same. It is war. Someone needs to stand up for the people caught in the middle. Someone needs to stand for peace.

The arguments for this remind me of something Bush said when he was running for President. Bill O'Reilly asked him why he supported the Death Penalty being he was a Christian. O'Reilly opposes it.

Bush thought for a minute, then responded:

Bill, you have to kill them to stop the killing!

people at the Minnesota State Fair to determine whether they supported the U.S. attacking Syria and she said something to the effect of 'It isn't just liberals or peace activist against this it's "patriots" as well' as if there was a difference between the two.

Thanks for the thread, annm4peace.

so I guess she feels that one of the largest and most active Veterans for Peace chapters is in MN and she thinks those members aren't "patriots". I think I get more upset by those comments then the Vets for Peace do.

she is a hack.
