BEIRUT: Hezbollahs parliamentary bloc said Thursday a possible U.S. strike on Syria for the alleged use of chemical weapons would be "direct and organized terrorism that would threaten the region, regardless of pretext.
The bloc considers U.S. aggression on Syria or the threat to do so as direct and organized terrorism which represents a challenge to the region and its people, as well as a blatant threat to regional and international peace and security, the bloc said in a statement following its weekly meeting.
The statement said Hezbollah condemned and rejected the possible attack regardless of what prompted it.
The U.S. accused Syrian President Bashar Assad, Hezbollahs main ally, of using chemical weapons against its people on several occasions, including an Aug. 21 attack, which Washington said killed over 1,400 people.

(58,724 posts)On the one hand, I think it could be disastrous. There will inevitably be innocent people killed - and it could trigger even further violence. On the other hand, as President Obama and SOS Kerry have said, there really needs to be some consequence and accountability for a regime that uses chemical weapons against its own people (assuming that those assertions are true). I wish we lived in a world without violence, where people could resolve differences through reasoned negotiations, but wishing does not make it so. All that being said, my preference would be for there not to be any kind of military strike, but rather some other kind of consequence for Assad.
