Here are head spinning snips, which give rise to even more questions..
1. The Pentagon has notified congressional appropriators that it wont seek added funds to pay for a strike, said a Defense Department official and a Republican aide on the House Appropriations Committee.
2. the Pentagon can absorb it from existing funds, which include a wartime contingency budget of $93 billion this fiscal year.
3.estimated the total cost of the limited strike envisioned by Obama as between $300 million and $1 billion, depending on how many cruise missiles are launched and how long the attack lasts.
4.a strike the U.S. is contemplating is a fraction of the magnitude of past military actions in Libya, Iraq and Afghanistan.

(1,689 posts)but rarely are they actually used for that purpose. Besides my Prius I have a Tahoe with a snow plow, but I pretty much use it just for plowing or hauling heavy loads. But to use a SUV for one person to commute is dumb in my book.

Budget Sequestration affects everything except our military budget - the highest in the world.
Bombing Syrians is more important than feeding Americans.

(20,818 posts)it sucks down seven BILLION dollars a fucking WEEK. And anything it asks for, it's given. Priorities, ya know?
Why do you think social security, medicare/medicaid, and other programs that actually benefit human needs are always the first to be considered for cuts and always need to be defended and protected? Maybe we should fold them under the umbrella of the Pentagon and that will stop the never-ending assaults against them.

(9,933 posts)because their jobs were off shored struggling to get by on reduced unemployment due to the sequester. The government can't do anything to keep jobs in the country, can't fund meals on wheels, head start or even pay full unemployment but they always have money to bomb another upstart county. Funny 'cause they were so busy telling us why we need to cut more just a couple weeks ago.

(60,010 posts)and how this Pentagon announcement might be cover for that.
Still, it comes across as a statement of how desperately they must want to destabilize Syria, "assuring" us that it won't cost a cent, nope, all done and paid for
PLUS
even tho it might cost as much as 1 billion
The Pentagon announces it STILL has enough money to bomb other countries, apparently.

A quote from Kerry from the hearing:
In fact, some of them have said that if the United States is prepared to go do the whole thing the way weve done it previously in other places, theyll carry that cost, Kerry said. Thats how dedicated they are at this. Thats not in the cards, and nobodys talking about it, but theyre talking in serious ways about getting this done."
Just so pathetic and sickening.

(22,380 posts)We can give a war - another one - and not really involve the populace. They won't be deprived to help pay for it, except in sending their sons and daughters.
They are eviscerated and deprived already and it can't get much worse for many.
93 billion war stash money.
Ain't that special?!
I have decided that once in office no Politician is going to be trusted by me ever again in this life time.
The things I don't know that turns them into people I no longer recognize (after meeting them on the campaign trail, working for them and helping them get elected) must be very huge and as my title says: Sickening.
I for one am exhausted from protesting the same shit all over again in many ways, and may simply move under the bridge in Timbuktu.

Navy: Lincoln Refueling Delayed, Will Hurt Carrier Readiness LINK
The U.S. Navy will delay the refueling of the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) for an unknown period because of the uncertain fiscal environment due to the ongoing legislative struggle, the service told Congress in a Friday message obtained by USNI News.
Lincoln was scheduled to be moved to Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) Newport News Shipyard later this month to begin the 4-year refueling and complex overhaul (RCOH) of the ship.
This delay is due to uncertainty in the Fiscal Year 2013 appropriations bill, both in the timing and funding level available for the first full year of the contract, the message said.
CVN-72 will remain at Norfolk Naval Base where the ships force personnel will continue to conduct routine maintenance until sufficient funding is received for the initial execution of the RCOH.
Rep. J. Randy Forbes (R-Va.) chairman of the House Armed Services Seapower subcommittee released a statement denouncing the need for decision.
Forbes called the delay, another example of how these reckless and irresponsible defense cuts in Washington will have a long-term impact on the Navys ability to perform its missions. Not only will the Lincoln be delayed in returning to the Fleet, but this decision will also affect the USS Enterprise (CVN-65) defueling, the USS George Washington (CVN-73) RCOH, and future carrier readiness.

(1,957 posts)If they stopped just one war and took that money for truly humanitarian projects imagine what we could have....Meals On Wheels could expand and no senior/disabled would ever have to fear of not getting that meal....Food pantries would have stocked shelves and never have to turn anyone away....Shelters would have ample space for those who needed a roof on a cold night...abused women would have a place for themselves and their kids....no one would ever be turned down for treatment at a clinic or ER...bridges would be safe...roads would be repaired....preschool kids would once again have education at their fingertips no matter what mama could afford to pay...all kids would have a free meal at school--none would be turned down because they did not have enough cash on their meal card...our federal parks could once again run at full speed with enough guards to ensure safety and any needed repairs....jobs programs could generate another generation of young adults with education to be able to have a bit of comfort like their parents or grandparents had to be able to buy a car, have a place to live on their own and be able to marry and raise a family if they choose.....But instead we have to have yet another war.
