The weapon believed to be used in the Naval Yard shooting is a...you guessed it...AR-15.

Which means a wonderful bump for business at gun shows and gun shops in the next coming weeks!

Aren't you just so happy for them?

And aren't you just so happy for all the gun enthusiasts whose first reaction to a mass shooting involving a semi automatic rifle is to go out and buy more semi-automatic rifles?

there and if only everyone was armed it wouldn't have happened. There are all kinds of low post people showing up on DU with the NRA talking points. What do they do just lurk around waiting for a shooting to happen?

Try rereading the thread. I'm not sure what's true, but you are misstating what is being said in the other thread.

I read the other thread and one of the people explaining that most people on military bases are unarmed has nearly 30,000 posts. I don't have knowledge on that, but I think it's unfair to dismiss the idea based on low post count when some of the people who posted it are longtime DU members. It could be true.

I agree the original post went overboard about everyone being armed. The facts are it is a military installation and they have more security than an ordinary mall or whatever. If you have a gate and armed guards and only authorized people are permitted in the facility everyone in the facility wouldn't need to be armed. From what I read I guess some people think there aren't enough guns. Conclusion if everyone was carring a gun they would have taken him out.

that's the gun you'll want to use.

It's light, easy to load and reload and reload, accurate and easy to aim.

Any moron could use it to kill a pile of people in a really short period of time and it's been shown to work that way for morons many times.

That fucking gun in the hands of a civilian is an abomination.
