‘Putin’s Regime Is Acting Like A Cornered Animal’ Says Russian LGBT Journalist

A CNN roundtable discussion featuring LGBT Russian journalist Masha Gessen, conservative blogger Andrew Sullivan, and CNN’s Christiane Amanpour and Anderson Cooper last week discussed the environment for gay people in Russia. Gessen, who has become very outspoken in recent months, declared that “Putin’s regime at this point is acting like a cornered animal.”

Gessen made the remarks in relation to a question from Amanpour about whether or not reform will come to Russia through more liberal politicians. “The problem is with the Kremlin’s hate campaign.”

Gessen disagreed with Sullivan, and believes the boycotts against the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, must be extensive, and must “make his life hell.” Sullivan, on the other hand, thinks wearing a rainbow button is enough — “boycotting is a little futile.”

As usual, Andrew Sullivan can go fuck himself and the best part of this article is the last sentence.
