I'd hate to think it was people like me who will do harm to the Democratic Party

The Republicans were doing pretty good until a minority within their Party found its voice. Their fatal minority came to be known as the Tea Party. The Tea Party folks demanded ideological purity and they got it in the candidates they put in office, and the denigration of the overall Party followed as we have all seen. It was not just a matter of demographics that is killing the Republican Party, its the nut-cases that have risen to the top.

Over here on our side there haven't been similar radicals in decades. Its been decades since we went to the streets to end nationalized racism, militarism, worker exploitation, a host of other social ills. Back then there were like-minded Republicans and Democrats who moved as a bloc, but now days the Parties have their 'factions.' Over on the GOP side they call themselves the Tea Party where as we, such as we exist, tend to think of ourselves as Progressives. I consider myself one of them. To put it simply I believe that with thought and action we can progress. This is in utter opposition to those who would prefer that we regress, back into some mythical past of American exceptionalism.

The Tea Party has reeked havoc on the Republican Party. The question of the day become will we Progressives do the same to the Democratic Party? I think 2014 will tell, because it seems to me the wind is shifting on our side as more and more of us become enraged by perpetual war, outrages in foreign trade policy, and the rape of the working man and woman. I think a storm is coming and I also think its far past time for it.

The third way is to blame if Democrats stay home.

I will not vote for Hillary. If the GOP wins, it is because the Democrats are offering up a Republican economic agenda.

As Harry Truman pointed out, “Given the choice between a Republican and someone who acts like a Republican, people will vote for the real Republican all the time”

The Democratic party lost its way and started acting like Republicans on economic issues. (And some would say the Republicans started acting like crazy people just to get daylight between the parties.)

Whatever you think of the Tea Party, they succeeded in driving the Republicans to the right. Yes, it did cost the Republicans an election or too, but the Tea Party ultimately won.

We frankly need to do the same and stop being intimidated by DLCers and Third Wayers. If we can prove that those kinds of politicians can't survive primaries or general elections, then maybe the party will get the message that we need more progressive candidates.

And frankly, that starts with Hillary.

There is just one little thing though. I agree that the movement to the absurd right has cost the Republicans an election or two but I don't think that's final. I think its going to cost them a lot more elections going forward as well. The great question seems to be if a mirroring move to more progressive positions might cause us Democrats to lose more often at the polls as well. Personally, particularly considering the nation's changing demographics (younger and darker) I don't think it would do us much harm at all as far as electoral successes go and it would sure as hell improve the lives of the vast majority of Americans.

It's faux ideology became prominent because of the Obama healthcare Town Halls. It's no longer useful to the M$M or the politicians on either side

The decline to state voter is the fastest growing "party" in California. It's not coincidence. We have a center right and a right wing parties. It's time.

"New Democrats, Turd Way Democrats, and Blue Dogs" have done immeasurable harm to liberals, progressives, and The Democratic Party in general.

I personally have had more than my fill of the pretenders and will never vote for any candidate simply because they plop a "D" behind their name. They will stand for values and policies that line up with my liberal, progressive ones, or they won't get my support. Period.

We've got our version of the Teabaggers (I refuse to call them a party), they just normally don't act as crazy. In public, at least.

I've gone to my last voting booth holding my nose. From now on, I vote for the person/party that matches my goals and beliefs. I hope that/they will be Democratic. Win or lose, at least I'll sleep with a clear conscience.

They have been reeking havoc for years now. That havoc is coming to an end and their desire to shove the Party to the right all snuggled in with the Republicans is becoming very much out of fashion.
The Third Way is the group that organizes around but outside the Party in an attempt to control and influence the larger Party. This is exactly what the Tea Party is and what they do on the Republican side.
