Parent accused of assaulting Treynor football coach over son's playing time

No idea how a parent can do this to a coach on any level. I had kids in sports and been a coach for my kids and grand kids.

By Mike Brownlee

An angry parent allegedly assaulted Treynor High School football coach Steve Owens after the Cardinals’ victory Friday night.

Around 10:15 p.m., Michael Beard, whose son plays for the team, grabbed Owens by the shirt and shoved him against a desk, Pottawattamie County Sheriff Jeff Danker said.

Owens and an assistant coach were sitting in a high school classroom after the Cardinals defeated West Central Valley 27-26 in Treynor. Beard’s son entered the room to discuss his playing time in the game. Michael Beard entered shortly thereafter and "was loud and using profanity about playing time," Danker said.

Michael Beard crept closer to Owens as he raised his voice further, Danker said, and reportedly grabbed Owens by the shirt at his chest. Beard allegedly shoved the football coach into a nearby desk.

Culture? Sports? Video Games? No prayer in schools? This poor guy was made to do this by something, and we need to find out what it was and blame it (maybe his shirt, was it red??) then find a way to only allow our trusted people in government have access to it.

If only he had had a gun on him we could say that was cause, dismiss this, and move on to other news. We might have to look at some other cause in this case but for the life of me I can't of anything possible that makes people act in a harmful way.
