Southern Political Attitutdes: Geography vs. Identity

Here's an interesting study done by the Blair Center-Clinton School, Arkansas. This study shows how those who think of themselves as 'Southern' show more similar characteristics than those who actually live in the South.

85.6% of white Republicans living in the South oppose Healthcare Reform and 86.1% of them want Immigration laws similar to those of Arizona!

Just look at the differences in opinion between them and others.

one of them could be elected to a national office. The fact that they sometimes are is a testament to their spinning abilities. When I have to interact with these people in real life, which I don't unless I have to, it makes me angry and depressed at the same time. That's why I love DU; I don't have to deal with that sort of ignorance. I can usually put up with the sort of ignorance we have around here sometimes.
