(37,573 posts)and like much country music in the 1990s, it could easily have been pop music in the 1970s, as this song could easily be done by Jim Croce, Harry Chapin or James Taylor.
And, of course, I was/am a geek.

(1,484 posts)......as a folk song. I used to listen to him perform it on acoustic guitar all of the time at the street fairs around the S.F. Bay area, before any of those other people had ever even heard it. But thats OK. I think he's putting his adopted child of color through college on the monthly royalty checks that he receives from that one song.
