Hello,
Over the past two days we have received a tremendous amount of feedback on Rush Limbaughs recent comments. I too am offended and very concerned about his comments. Limbaughs remarks have us rethinking our future use of talk radio.
We use more than 40 talk show hosts to help get the Carbonite message out to the public. The nature of talk radio is that from time to time listeners are offended by a host and ask that we pull our advertising. This goes for conservatives like Limbaugh and progressives like Stephanie Miller and Ed Shultz. We even get customers who demand that we pull the plug on NPR. As an advertiser, we do not have control over a shows editorial content or what they say on air. Carbonite does not endorse the opinions of the shows or their hosts.
However, the outcry over Limbaugh is the worst weve ever seen. I have scheduled a face-to-face meeting next week with Limbaugh during which I will impress upon him that his comments were offensive to many of our customers and employees alike.
Please know your voice has been heard and that we are taking this matter very seriously.
Regards,
Dave

Thanks for posting this -- I'll write them, too. (What's the email address or URL for the form?)

In my post this morning I provided a list of companies who reportedly advertised on Rush Limbaughs show. I have personally called them and this is my report of what I have learned.
1. Pro-flowers: Their sales line was so busy that I was automatically disconnected.
2. Sleep Train: No longer advertising
3. e-harmoney: No longer advertising
4. Carbonite: Carbonite has not discontinued their support of the show. The representative I spoke with simply said that they advertised with a wide variety of shows, and that the views expressed did not represent theirs. I explained that by advertising on his show they are making it possible for him to use a public radio show to give voice to his foul and distasteful comments. You may be interested in e-mailing a manager at their corporate office to share your views at : dfriend@carbonite.com.

I'll write them a sorrowful message about how sad I am that I will miss their Seriously Sharp Cheddar since I will not buy their products anymore as long as they sponsor that person.
Thank you!

(39,961 posts)I love their Seriously Sharp cheese, but I can live without it if they keep sponsoring Limbaugh. I'll still eat the block I have in the fridge though, since it's already paid for.

(2,522 posts)responsible on-air personalities. Ed Schultz, in particular, took personal responsibility for a comment he made "in the heat of the moment". These types of comments are Limbaugh's stock-in-trade. For instance, his insistence at mispronouncing Mayor Ray Nagin's name during coverage of the Katrina disaster. He has yet to take responsibility for any of his inane comments.
Dave: Its not just his most recent outburst. He has a long history of making insulting and vile comments. Because of your past association with this offensive personality I personally will not do business with Carbonite.

That's not good enough. This is not the first time that he has said horrid, misogynistic things about women.
This is not how any civilized country treats women. These are our mothers, aunts, sisters, nieces, co-workers, and neighbors. These are women. These are people.
I am forwarding your "response" to every women I know. My daughters, granddaughters, nieces, co-workers, and neighbors!!!

(53,410 posts)They're really nervous about what's going to happen. They just put a casual face in the response to you. Believe me, behind the scenes they're scrambling. Probably scared of him but more terrified of losing what may be hundreds of thousands of customers at this point.

(55 posts)So, I will be emailing "DAVE" and telling him that that his response is not quite there yet. For myself and having listened to both Stephanie Miller and Ed Schultz, I don't believe I ever heard either one of them calling a college student a slut or prostitute. In Stephanie Miller's case, she is self-denigrating only and certainly not cruel. I also think that at the very least, Ed Schultz has taken responsibility for some of his remarks. Never heard Limpballs ever accept responsibility for anything.

(11,175 posts)1. Sign up with Carbonite and say I heard an ad on one of the progressive shows. I never listen to talk radio, Limbaugh-type or our side, but I could tell them a little white lie to give one of our people a boost. Any specific code or URL I should use?
2. Sign up with a competitor. Someone in this thread mentioned Veritas -- never heard of them, are they any good?
3. Any other ideas from knowledgeable people? I'm increasingly thinking that I need to shell out for some kind of online backup.

(18,775 posts)First he says "the outcry over Limbaugh is the worst weve ever seen" The problem being the outcry and not Limbaugh's words. Second, there's no promise to pull advertising, just "talk" to Limbaugh.
