The Weather Channel on MSNBC just called us out specifically as an area they are watching closely for tornadoes.
They showed a picture of downtown Knoxville earlier today with a funnel cloud attempting to form over the Sunsphere.
If you live here or near here, STAY SAFE!
If you live in a trailer or an otherwise unsafe house, please IM me. I live in a big brick house with a partially submerged full sized basement. You can come here to wait it out if necessary.

(11,366 posts)We've only had that, too, but when you keep seeing your city on the news and NOTHING'S HAPPENED YET, you get rather timid.

(11,304 posts)I hope it keeps like this. Of course I am sitting here with my rosaries praying to god this little house stands. We are kind of lucky because we are surrounded by the mountains. Gosh Hwy 30 is very close and the wind is picking up. It is so damn dark outside and you can't see a thing. Does anyone know how long these storms are suppose to last?

(11,366 posts)I was raised Catholic and Baptist... yep... both churches. My Mom is Catholic. Dad is Baptist. I ended up on the Catholic side. Hail Mary, full of Grace...
Have you saved some potable water in your tub? I have friends who don't have a tub - just a shower. I've told 'em to put water in all containers. Better safe than sorry.
And, these storms WERE supposed to last until 11 p.m., but I'm still getting storm warnings past that time, now, on TV.

(11,304 posts)been the longest place I have lived in. I travelled all over the world my dad and mom then I got married to a GI and travelled all over the world and the united states. I do have to say I have gotten use to living here. I love the area I live in because it quiet. I live in the middle of nursery country in Middle Tn. The road use to be Route this or that. Now they are named after people in the areas. Yes living in the south as a catholic as been an eye opener for me. I was use to seeing catholic church on every few blocks. Here we have one small catholic church. I miss going to mass like at home. I don't feel great going to this one catholic church. I feel like am going to a Baptist church. But to be honest I watch mass on tv. I just don't go to organized church often any longer because of the mixing with politics and church. What may you decide to go with the catholic side.? Just wondering. My granddaughter isn't catholic but when my husband goes she loves to go with him. He is a convert to Greek Orthodox Religion. It is kind of like the catholic church. They believe the same way about the blood and body of christ. He use to be a catholic.
It is quiet right now I hope we don't get any more storms for the night.

(11,366 posts)We Tennessee liberals are hard-core. We actually believe in that liberal dude from the New Testament... or, maybe it's just that liberal dude from Woodstock.
Either way, I'm so glad you offered!
Howdy, neighbor!

(11,366 posts)I have a huge back deck that we usually watch stars and planets on, but tonight, it's become a "hook cloud" watching podium. My deck is pretty high up, almost estuary-like.

(11,481 posts)I really never heard anything about them except for after the fact. My wife told me when she was on her way home from work that there had been a sighting in a town west of Nashville and a warning for west Nashville. But as I say, that was all after the fact. I didn't even have the TV on this afternoon.
I'm pretty fatalistic about those things. Tornadoes are SO capricious (like earthquakes) that I don't even pay attention to warnings, other than staying close to my inside closet.

They scare the shit outta me - and that's about all that does. I'd deck Limbaugh with a roundhouse without even blinking.
