The 1% is getting just what they wanted. They wanted the sequester. They wanted the shutdown.
They don't give a damn about the military, about the Affordable Care Act (they love that corporate insurance will reap billions with it). The don't care about parks or jobs or any of that. They want to starve government for the people. They are not people. They consider themselves above such a designation. They bought their elected officials and got what they wanted. The sequester and the shutdown affect them not at all.
Now some elected republicans might really be convinced they are fighting Obamacare. They are brainless idiots. Just listen to them talk for a few minutes and you see they lack any real thinking ability. They are the tools. Some know the score. They tirade against Obamacare because they know that is how they will be rewarded. They are hired assassins of the American way of life.
But we are still thinking this has to do with Obamacare and that we are winning. We have already lost the battle that mattered.

(11,122 posts)You don't know who the 1% is.
Jakes Progress
(11,122 posts)You do not know who the 1% is. CEO's and Wall Street shills work for them, but they aren't in that group.
Do you really think that if the koch's wanted the shut down to stop, that it would stop within the hour. They control the crazies in the republican party - and by extension with their willingness to fund alternative crazier candidates, all the other republicans. If cruzer got a call from david koch telling him to stop it, it would stop.

(114,904 posts)your fellow duers.
I, for one, do not think this is mostly about Obamacare- though it sure as shit has something to do with it. It's not about one single element. It's not just about the 1% either.
And bad as things are, your "we've lost already" and we're totally fucked, isn't wholly true either and defeatist rhetoric achieves nothing.
Why are you even posting on DU if you believe it's so utterly hopeless?
Jakes Progress
(11,122 posts)Or did you just have a bad old day and needed to be cranky?
You post shit all over DU. You get to blather on about what you think. But somehow you don't want me to have the same rights. Hmmm? Sounds familiar.
As far as your whiny post here, you do a really good job of avoiding the issue. You love to overstate the position of whatever target your whim points you at. You grow all morose and "poor me" when people to that to your posts. Sorry you are having such a bad day, but you don't get to tell people that they shouldn't post or that they have no reason to post just because you don't like them. I could just as easily ask you why you bother to post if everything is so wonderful and prosperity and equality have all been taken care of.
I will attempt to discuss the issue of the party being misled with you, if you have had a nice cup of tea and settled down. But until then there is no point in my taking your post apart and explaining it to you. So, read a comic or two. Eat a cookie. Then we can discuss the issue of the 1% double fake and where you miss the concept.

(114,904 posts)Uh, grab a clue. I've never claimed to be "head of du" or anything close to that. duh.
And I have no problem with your dribbling crap here. go for it. I do have a problem with YOU thinking you have some fucking right to post for all duers? Got that? Simple.
And yeah, I did address your points. As I said, it's complex and not some simple minded formula as YOU suggest.
Now go nurse your wounds with a nice cuppa, dear.
Jakes Progress
(11,122 posts)But you had it coming.
Go back and read your whining post. Just where did I speak for all of du, while you seem to think you get to tell other du'ers when they should and shouldn't post. Nasty business you carry on there. If you would just settle down and try thinking instead of popping off when you feel threatened, you wouldn't post such crap.
So. Your premise was that I was speaking for all of du. Just because someone doesn't think like you (make that feel like you) doesn't mean they are claiming to speak for du. If that were the case, then you would have to answer to the same crime you accuse me of. A little intellectual honesty is called for.
Nowhere did I suggest it was simple. Now if you see the idea of the 1% hoodwinking the country as simple, maybe you should get someone to help you understand. Someone who knows you might be able to explain it slowly and with details that you could see. I don't really think you would take the time to read my replies with anything like thought or reason.
No wounds here. I have my tea and cookie right here by me. I suggest you get the same. And open a window. And opening your mind to accepting other people's viewpoints wouldn't hurt. (Or maybe it would. I don't know your hangups. Do what you gotta.)

(37,428 posts)Ending it was the GOP's sole public demand. Even Cruz and Fox are backing off from the shutdown.
Jakes Progress
(11,122 posts)Yep. It is about a black man being president, which drives people like ryan and cruz crazy.
But, the ACA is just their excuse. These same people would be applauding the act if bush or reagan proposed it. Actually most earlier republican ideas about healthcare were more liberal than ACA. So ending it isn't really about ACA. To the tools - the brain limited fools like cruz and the backwater teapartiers - ending any successful thing by a black president is the goal. They really don't care what it is. They rail against his education plan which is bush's nclb on steroids. They are idiots.
But look at the language of some of the ideologues. They crow about making the government leaner and cutting even more. They just wish that the shutdown cut medicare too. In their circle, they really think that shutting down the government will prove to people that ending the education department and privatizing social security age good ideas. They are idiots who are insulated from the real world. But they have money and they use it to try to take the country back to the 1890s.

(37,428 posts)It's a convenient carrying handle for their racist base. The leaders of the GOP worship money even more than they do white skin.
Jakes Progress
(11,122 posts)The group that is really our enemy is almost post racism. If a black man gives them the power they want, they don't care. If they can use the racism of idiots as a tool, they will.
My point was that they really don't care whether you have health care or not, don't care whether we fight a war or not, don't care whether we feed children or not. All of it, all the things the middle and lower class care about are just tools for them to keep their positions of privilege and power. It's not even money. That is also just a tool to keep them there. They've had money for so long and had so much of it, they can't imagine why you think it is important.
Orsino
(37,428 posts)...but nothing much more complicated seems to be going on among the GOP.
Money and power. All else is posturing and subterfuge.

(11,804 posts)I was going to waste my time getting worked up about this issue and trying to convince people around me to see the right wing for what it is - petulant crybabies.
But now I know we've already lost, so I won't do anything. Thanks Jakes Progress - you've had an impact.

(11,122 posts)But giving up isn't really the thing to do.
If the battle is too much for you, then take a break, and get back to it. The war isn't over. We lost the spending battle so far. Do you know that the administration is offering to limit spending to paul ryan levels? I think realizing that they beat us there if the first step to taking back the ground we've lost.
If all you do is cheer kabuki victories, you will lose even more. The 1% isn't through taking from us if we let them keep at it. But we have to be realistic about what is happening instead of looking for happy happy. We have to see that in the bigger battle, the right wing idiots are just tools. The enemy is the wealthy that are using those tools. It is not political warfare; it is class warfare.
