But this government shutdown is only proving to me that republicans are far far more stupid than I thought possible...

I can only wonder on what grounds they think they can impeach him on? Being president while black? If they can't think of something I'm sure they will make some shit up.

On the one side, a bunch of young people being sent off to die.

On the other side was a bunch of WWII vets who fought the Nazi War Machine all the way across Europe. Those vets had total contempt for the younger generation. They were convinced that if they were sent to Vietnam they'd beat a bunch of guys in pajamas in two weeks.

Given they'd have to a) keep their majority in the House and b) pick up 21 seats in the Senate. Now while a maybe very possible, b is not only unlikely, it is impossible.

So yes they could choose to run on the issue, but it would be a losing issue.

I don't think there are enough far right candidates though that could win seats based on that strategy. They very well might do that, but I can't see it being a winning issue. The Tea Party has already screwed themselves with this shutdown.

"Let me make sure I have this right. The Tea Party lost the vote on ACA, lost their legal challenge to it in the Supreme Court, lost the Republican primaries AND the presidential election and now they're shutting down the government and ignoring the will of the electorate because they love America? That's it, right?

Followed up by this from the same guy:

What is the goal of all this? I'm a high income, pro-business, gun owning, truck driving patriotic American and the Republicans have completely lost me. Is the strategy to just go for the kooks now?"

If republicans try the impeachment trick ala Clinton, they are dead at the polls, every swing district will likely go to Democrats and even some red districts may become close.

True enough, their demented base will love it--and therefore we need to be out there firing up our side--but the independents and squishy middle will effing hate it.

I'd love to have that argument.
