Actually, in retrospect that may be an admission- if it was considered mission accomplished, the "compromising" with the GOP would be trumpeted from the highest towers.

In a sense, this particular shutdown is entirely the fault of the Obama administration, in that they always caved before, and thereby taught the pukes that they always would.
I am proud and heartened by the fact that Democrats and the White House are standing strong today, but it would have been far better if they did it 4 years ago.

(2,674 posts)Remember, we'd had the 2010 elections where the repubs picked up seats and Obama was facing re-election. I think he did what he had to do, if he'd fought the repubs in 2011, they would have drawn it out so far, that it would have damaged Obama and hurt is re-election chances. He got reelected and now he is a strong position because no matter what, this is his last term in office.
