We should oppose all efforts from non-profits and private actions

seeking to minimize the impact of the government shutdown. When private organizations step in to carry out functions of the government, it supports the right wing/libertarian frame of less government.

It also lessens the urgency of ending the shutdown.

I know these are well meaning people, but they are working against the Democratic position. The role and necessity of our government needs to be clear and obvious.

I would much prefer aid come from the government. There should be zero need for charities is the US. The government has the ability and access to all the resources necessary to distribute to those in need.

The key here is "well meaning people." Especially when the things they are doing are good deeds. When it comes to doing good deeds, opposing it happening in order to score political points doesn't even need to be on the radar.

Someone else should suffer because

a) You want political oomph

b) People might look somewhere eles besides the government for support

The first mistake of dealing with political sadists is thinking they care if you shoot the hostages.
The second mistake of dealing with political sadists is thinking there's any benefit in shooting the hostages.

Take all other options away, and then increasing numbers of people become dependent on your one thing. Which is what some private interests would want to do as well.

If you're looking to increase power and control over others, there are few better ways to do it.

That just plays right into the GOP's meme, to wit, that the executive branch is purposefully and callously trying to make this shutdown as painful as it can be for the citizenry and foreclosing other options to lessen that inconvenience.

Democrats should be about helping PEOPLE, no matter the source, not just about helping or protecting government.
