This Government Shut Down Exceptionalism Allows The GOP Cover To Continue Said Shut Down

The states asking for all these exceptions to run things themselves gives the GOP cover to claim that the shutdown is no bit deal and that a default is no big deal either. They can hide the real pain. And calling employees back over these developing emergencies is also the wrong thing to do. Remember these employees are working without pay and it takes money to go to work. So the whole thing is phony is we continue to make all these exceptions and pass piece meal funding bills.

If we are having a shut down then we should have a shut down. All this balkanizing of a shutdown risks making it easier to have serial shut downs by the GOP. Until the public understands what a shutdown really means and that government is necessary for a safe and sand society, nothing will change.

We are in a national emergency like someone having a heart attack. And we need to end this now and fund what is needed without deals or exception. Perhaps the only way it will end is with a real huge natural disaster that cannot be ignored.

People are recognizing that we are dead with out a federal government. Such realization may end the "bad government" meme that the GOP uses. It may well undercut Norquist and his crew and he may lose credibility.

and he's backed off his earlier "drown it in a bathtub" rhetoric because he's seen what government actually does rather than relying solely on the rantings of a couple of sour and ignorant billionaires.
