Neurosurgeon Ben Carson said Obamacare is the worst thing to happen to America "since slavery" while speaking at the 2013 Values Voter Summit in Washington, D.C.
"You know Obamacare is really I think the worst thing that has happened in this nation since slavery," Carson said Friday. "And it is in a way, it is slavery in a way, because it is making all of us subservient to the government, and it was never about health care. It was about control."
Carson was recently hired by Fox News as a contributor. He served as the director of pediatric surgery at the Johns Hopkins Children's Center for 39 years.
Carson has made other shocking comments in the past, once calling white liberals "racist."

(26,308 posts)For a man with his immense gift and intelligence, he does say some completely whacked out things. Reminds me of a relative of mine who is suffering from a degenerative brain disorder. She makes some of the most mean, hurtful, ridiculous and outlandish statements, that a rational person would have a hard time even conjuring up.
Or, maybe he's just one of those evil bastard people that seem to flourish in the constipated conservative crowd.

(2,307 posts)But, no longer.
He has become the "token" black for the right on healthcare. Last night I heard a right wing regurgitator talking about what Carson said and noted he was black probably 20 times in 5 minutes.
Carson has the right to his opinions and if he wants to use his fame to push his opinions that too is his right. But, I must wonder how much money he has made as a neurosurgeon? How many times did he work pro-bono because his patients didn't have insurance? Has he ever seen a child die from the lack money and insurance? Obama care may not be perfect but for many it may be the difference between life and death.

You can't very well come in with something like: "As a Physician I have analyzed this program carefully and I believe that people will be disappointed."
In the audience they were probably going like:
"He's the guy I was telling my dad about! He's tops in his field! He did my lobotomy. Look, you can hardly see the scar!"
