Rios: Matthew Shepard Murder A 'Complete Fraud'

Not only did American Family Association talk show host Sandy Rios plug the ex-gay movement and warn that gay people are trapped in “a powerful web of deceit” during her Values Voter Summit speech yesterday, but she also cited Stephen Jimenez’s shoddy reporting on the Matthew Shepard case to call his murder a “complete fraud.” She lamented that schools host the play The Laramie Project to teach tolerance to students and said that Shepard’s murder was a result of a “drug deal gone bad.”

Attempts now to rewrite the story of this hate crime appear to be based on untrustworthy sources, factual errors, rumors and innuendo rather than the actual evidence gathered by law enforcement and presented in a court of law. We do not respond to innuendo, rumor or conspiracy theories. Instead we recommit ourselves to honoring Matthew’s memory, and refuse to be intimidated by those who seek to tarnish it. We owe that to the tens of thousands of donors, activists, volunteers, and allies to the cause of equality who have made our work possible.

Basically Jimenez wants to rewrite the narrative on the murder based on an anonymous letter he found and building on that a line of defense that never occurred to the defense team.

The only thing I believe from Jimenez is that he is shopping a movie script.

They have a GAY author, Stephen Jimenez, calling the entire thing into question. It is like the Jew haters when they find that "helpful" Jew. African-Americans have a wonderful term for it! Ever since I saw that Jimenez hit-piece being discussed on DU (with a link to Andrew "ML" Sullivan...also a fucking tool), I knew it wouldn't take long for the hate-mongers to latch on to this like the parasites they are.

I met Shepards mom about a year after his murder. I was doing audio for a gay rights event and she was one of the speakers. What a strong wonderful woman. To do this to her, and to his memory is just fucking disgusting..

I find myself hoping that al these religious freaks are right, that there is a God, a Jesus and a Heaven, just so I could see the look on their faces when they are turned away from the "pearly gates"...
